2012-13 Lockout Discussion Part VIIII: "We're Close" "We're Not Close" Edition

Continue.

Tim Panaccio ‏@tpanotchCSN
so why was the league so upset tonight? they wanted total compliance of their offer and NOT a new counter offer from the union.

Chris Johnston ‏@reporterchris
NHL was proposing a salary cap of $60 million, with one season at $70 million to help teams transition down.

At least they recognize they're dying.

I know what Walsh's job is. But try to make it a little more clear that it's OBVIOUS no one is thinking about the FANS

Allan Walsh ‏@walsha
NHL and owners against long term contracts for players but demands long term CBA.

Then effing negotiate it! Obviously 7 years are ok in principle if the NHL wants to allow it for re-signing. So offer 7 year limit for all players and I can't see them refusing after offering 8 years... But of course that's too logical and they'd rather lose the season over that.

The NHL is going to take a giant hit to everything if they cancel the season at this point. Fans, sponsors, credibility in general. Canceling a season over the remaining differences is ridiculous and a terrible business move

The NHLPA is trying to use CBA length as leverage to move the league on term limits.

The league still doesn't get it. Money is important to the players, but it isn't the ONLY thing.

Exactly.

I should of said, 'If they can say the PA doesn't want a deal, then neither does the league.'

Hahah

NHL played right into Fehr's hands. They look terrible for doing this press conference and for rejecting the offer so publically. Bettman and the owners dropped the ball here

Can't believe owners are willing to draw the line between a season and not on 3 years of contract length.

It's unbelievable.

This entire process is a joke. Way to emotional.

Or the difference of two-four years of a CBA

Been away for a little while. Can someone catch me up on why people are saying the Tuesday meeting was in fact a PR stunt? What is making them say that?

No idea but judging from the dynamic of the NHL owners it's probably something like some teams being mad at other teams and trying to **** them over
