I like it. I like it a lot, actually. It's relevant to the local culture, thereby making it an ambassador for the city of New Orleans and state of Louisiana, which is what sports teams generally should be. If they're going to swindle us out of our money, the least they can do is put on a good face.

I'm not sure how that will mix with the proposed blue/red/gold color scheme, but I can definitely dig on the name.

Agreed. My only issue with it is the way it sounds.. New Orleans Pelicans. There's nothing to it.. it doesn't flow.. It can make all the sense in the world, and it does, but it just sounds like a joke..

Lets just take a look at the NBA teams with an animal in their name... We have the Raptors, Bulls, Bucks, Hawks, Bobcats, Grizzlies, Hornets, and Timberwolves. What do they all have in common? They're all fierce. They're killers.. They're the type of animal that you run away from when faces 1vs1. Mind you, a Hornet isn't an animal.. but you get my point. The 'Pelicans' just doesn't strike fear in the opponent..

As for the mascot, I would assume they would just modify 'Riptide'.. the Tulane mascot.

Even though that's what Benson's wife wants I still wouldn't be surprised if they went with the Mardi Gras color scheme of Purple, Green and Gold, like the old Jazz. (Jazz recently went back to these colors though, kinda, except with Navy Blue instead of Purple)

If they do hopefully the unis turn out better than this:

Red, Blue and Gold would probably just look like the LeBron-era Cavs.

and with the Bobcats (at times) looking like they actually know how to play Basketball now, lets return the Hornets name to Charlotte and just forget the "Bobcats" ever happened.

Also, the Pelican mouth being a hoop in the logo would be kinda weird cool in a cultish type way

Actually, deer are the most deadly animal in the United States.. On average, 140 people die per year from deer-related deaths.. be it getting attacked while hunting (those antlers can stab right through you) or from car accidents. Granted, most of the time it IS from someone hitting them with their car and getting the worst of it.. but the Buck will attack if he feels threatened.

If you're hunting and get attacked by a deer and lose, you're an idiot.

Julian Wright and Darren Collison take offense to that.

(That shows how bad the Hornets were/are that they actually had Julian Wright debut a jersey. )

If the Bobcats do go back to the Hornets I hope they use the old Purple and Teal and MJ doesn't try to implement the Tar Heels colors like he's done with the BobMavs unis.

If this is the actual logo it's one of the better ones in sports imo.

Exponentially better than the Hornets logo. I approve.

Can you imagine that PR meeting?

"Jerseys? Check. Players? Well how about Darren Collison and...umm....(closes eyes and hits player on roster) Julian Wright?"

Majority of the franchises that were founded in the late 80s and 90s (the era of the cartoonish logos) were named after animals. I think it was because of the lack of creativity so they'll just find any fierce animal that they can use. Here are the franchises that I'm talking about:

NBA:
Charlotte Hornets
Vancouver Grizzlies
Toronto Raptors
Minnesota Timberwolves
Charlotte Bobcats

Only the Heat and Magic were the ones that did not use any animal. Then again, their name had to be in singular form, which was unusual.

NHL:
San Jose Sharks
Mighty Ducks of Anaheim
Florida Panthers

I guess the other teams did a good job avoiding any animal moniker (Senators, Lightning, Thrashers, Wild). Wild are arguable, though. Colorado Avalanche - though a relocation, I guess they still had to change their name. They could've easily used any animal.

MLB:
Florida Marlins
Tampa Bay Devil Rays
Arizona Diamondbacks

Colorado Rockies - meh, not original since that moniker was already used by the hockey team.

NFL:
Carolina Panthers
Baltimore Ravens
Jacksonville Jaguars

Houston Texans - LOL.

The name Texans was better than the other options they had.

Speaking of, according to Wiki, Miami Heat beat out the name Miami Vice, lord thank goodness. Heat was also apparently an option for Orlando as was the Juice (lolz). TWolves other option was Polars

San Jose is right by the Pacific ocean which is filled with Sharks. The name works on many levels.

Grizzlies,T-wolves,Marlins,Rays, and D-backs are also animals relative to their teams location.

With San Jose, though, you don't really think of it as a coastal town. It is technically and inland city in the valley.

Depending on your location, you are minutes from the San Francisco bay.

How many Kings reign in LA, seeing as the capital is 400 miles north?

Are you trying to turn this into "my team's name makes more sense than your team" discussion? Are you that defensive? Kings is a generic name anyway. Any city can use it.
