Well personally I hold both sides responsible...

It's really impossible for us as outsiders to be 100%, but from me all indications are both have been "intransigent" and both are responsible for the lockout:

Both have been hardliners
Both have been stuborn on not give-and-take
etc
etc

NHL - No. Because if we do that, then teams will start losing money again.

In all likelihood, since some teams are so poorly run, while other teams can fudge their books, the next round of negotiations will begin with the owners claiming they're still losing money.

Seriously, if I'm a player, I'm trying to get the CBA locked in at 50/50 for the next 10-15 years. If they're really serious about protecting the future of the game, then they need less work stoppages to avoid pissing off the fans, and they need to provide the owners with less opportunities to tell them that they're losing money.
I agree, this part of the process has puzzled me to no end. The players are trying to draw a line in the sand saying you cannot just roll us back every time, the owners are looking for concessions. By all logic I can see the players should be the ones demanding a long CBA to prevent more reductions, since clearly the players are not going to maintain their part of the pot this time. Owners should be looking for a short one to get more reductions next time, since clearly this is "working" for them. I just don't get it.

10 year CBA with a mutual opt out after years 8 and 9 I would be completely happy with, lengthwise. 5 years is way way too short, IMO, don't want to do this again in 5 years, c'mon...

2.4 million per year average , guaranteed contracts .... honestly hard to be on the players side for me. A third of the franchises need a workable CBA to ensure viability , thats 250 plus jobs .... this looking out for the next generation of players talk doesn't mesh today , this isn't Ted Lindsey having a real concern imo. Want to look out for your fellow players? think about 6 to 10 less teams.

Things seem incredibly optimistic listening to Fehr, however that's just one side of the argument and have no clue how Bettman and Daly will react.

It could simply be a way to get the fans back on the players sides if the owners reject.

No one publicly announces something like that without hearing the response from the other side first other than to bring the people back to your side.

Fehr is a *********.

Not too high, not too low people

It's a bad situation, but there's still plenty of time. January 15th or so is the cut off for the loss of the season. It's far from over. They are close as hell, it's annoying that minor details have held this up. Why are the players even asking for a short CBA . Why are the owners stuck on contract lengths, how many long term deals (above 5 years) are there, like 20-30? Some small percent of total players

Either there is something we are all missing that neither side is talking about, or these people are all ridiculous.

Very pissed. Great PC though. Man they just ran over Fehr then backed up the bus and ran him over again then pulled up...stopped on him and spun the tires!

Yep, they went over every little detail over the past few days.

I actually agree with Bettman, he looks like he's about to explode.

He is rattled, for sure. He is laying it all on the table in this presser.

I think he just set the drop dead date. He said in 94 they played 48 games and I can't imagine we play less than that. That deal was signed on January 11th. So pretty much, there it is.

Not sure if it's just me, but I've lost a lot of respect for Ron Hainsey throughout this whole process.

I've never seen Bettman so fired up. This is the first time I have begun to side with the owners.

Meh, he's playing his side. He needs to be a hardliner, at least publicly, since he is prominant member of the PA...

It's pretty clear to see who really wants to be playing hockey after watching those PCs.
