Drew Stafford in the summer of 2013

I'm probably way ahead of myself and for that you can blame the numbskulls in New York (all of them).

Anyway assuming for arguement sake, Stafford has another 50 point year with 20-30 goals. He'll have two years left on his contract at a cost of 4 million per (in terms of real money and cap hit)

Sabres have Armia coming

What do you offer Buffalo?

If something can be made around Tallinder, with the Devils not adding much, then it could be a pretty good deal.

But I think that Buffalo has way too many defensemen anyways.

I doubt you would deal him within the division but what would Buffalo be looking for in return exactly?

This thread is about Stafford, not Vanek.

Considering where we're at in the year, I'd say that's an overly optimistic assumption.

IMO you keep Stafford. We'd be able to run 3 scoring lines, because we'd have 3 LWs (Vanek, Foligno, Leino), 3 Cs (Ennis, Hodgson, Grigorenko), and 3 RWs (Pominville, Stafford, Armia), with Girgensons being a wild card. Armia can be fit in without moving Stafford. (Plus, it's the Sabres...you have to expect half of those guys to get injured which will also help fit guys in).

not sure why we are moving stafford? he is a key part of the team.

Especially moving him for a maybe in Armia.

I think the assumption here is that Armia has a strong camp/start to the season and makes Drew either our 3rd line RW or entirely expendable. Not sure I'd do it either, because our forward group outside of Vanek and Pommer is already scary young and because Stafford has that great chemistry with Ennis, but if we're projecting Grigorenko and Armia in the line-up, this team is again going to be hurting for more gritty players.
