I'd nominate Määttä for Finland.

Are we talking about pre-tournament status or post-tournament prediction?

The offense is deep, could be either of 4 or 5 guys. On defense Hampus is the unquestionable #1, and will play closer to 30 minutes would be my guess.

The ultimate MVP may be whoever is between the pipes. If either goalie can establish themselves as one of the best in the tournament through play rather than hype, then look out for Canada.

I think Malcolm Subban certainly could make this case by the end of the tournament.

Might be the homer in me, but I think it's probable that Vasilevski could be the MVP for Russia at the tournament. He played in the U18 first as a young gun, and has only improved with time. He is only going to get better (as already seen).

If Dumba makes the team and gets decent ice-time, he'll surprise a lot of people. Also for the russians, Vasilevski will be making a strong case imo.

The first is whoever is the most prestigious player in the squad, ie. the biggest name.

The second is who you think will actually put up the best performance. Because after all, those two end up being different individuals from time to time.

Here's a wild stab at some predictions ....

Sweden - W. Nylander

Russia - Andrei Vasilevski

Canada - Hamilton/Scheifele

Finland - T. Teravainen

Slovakia - Marko Dano

Czech - T. Hertl

U.S.A - Grimaldi

Don't know enough about the Germans or the Swizz to even make random predictions.

As for the medals, here's how I think it will end up ...

GOLD - Canada

SILVER - Finland

BRONZE - USA/Russia

if we need some success, MVP must be our goalie (so Machovskż or Bartošįk) because our defense is nothing special ...

but from Hertl x Frk x Jaskin, I think it will be Hertl ... but Jaskin will be our best scorer and Frk will have most shots and penalty minutes

I think Ryan Strome or RNH will be the MVP for Canada.

I agree, love Scheifele and his game, very complete player and he provides a lot of intangibles. Every game I watched on Canada-Russia this past summer, he was very noticeable and effective in all situations. I had easily peg him as a MVP ahead of someone like Strome.
