Have only taken my Alomar bobblehead out of it's box once since that induction ceremony. Man that was a great day. Packed in the skydome like sardines. Also have ones of Joe Carter, and Romero.

I actually know someone who works for the third party that supplies the Jays with all of their promotional stuff, like bobbleheads.

They had a Frank Thomas bobblehead day planned a few years back... it was scheduled for a couple weeks after he was released.

I remember hearing a story that they were in a crazy scramble last minute to change/come up with a new promotion after that move. EVEN A BOBBLEHEAD CANT SAVE YOU

The best/easiest way to find them is through garage sales. Even if I'm busy, I'll take a detour if I see a garage sale sign. You can usually find one for 5bucks.

Thinking about adding some depth to the club.... What do people think of the following FA;

Ramon Ramirez (RP) http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/_/id/6503/ramon-ramirez
Carlos Zambrano (SP) http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/_/id/4499/carlos-zambrano
Jose Valverde (CP) http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/_/id/5504/jose-valverde (35 Saves)
Ben Sheets (RP) http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/_/id/4571/ben-sheets (35 Ks in 49.1 Inn)
Rafael Soriano - http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/_/id/4600/rafael-soriano (pricey but STILL)
Joe Saunders (SP) http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/_/id/6383/joe-saunders
Jason Marquis (SP) http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/_/id/4409/jason-marquis
Brandon McCarthy (SP) http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/_/id/6...andon-mccarthy (why aren't we in on this guy? did he get signed somewhere?!)

Casey Kotchman (1B) http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/_/id/5918/casey-kotchman (was once highly touted ... maybe he can find his way as a Jay?)
Carlos Lee (1B) http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/_/id/4000/carlos-lee
Ronny Cedeno (SS/2B) http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/_/id/6254/ronny-cedeno (cedeno at 2B... Reyes at SS..wow!)
Chad Durbin (RP) http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/_/id/4210/chad-durbin

Just a few guys that might be able to fill that #5/Swing man spot in our rotation or help bring some stability and depth to our bullpen. A couple of (mainly 1B) infielders that might make sense for depth, stop gap, platoons...

thoughts?

I am not to big on acquiring players who used to be good. Rather bring in talent who can perform.

I got 50 boxed ones once from a garage sale for $200 (incl Jeter, Pujols, Ichiro, Clemente, Bonds, Aaron etc). Most of them were from actual team giveaways

Best deal I've ever got on sports stuff

Pretty sure Ben Sheets is a starter and hes pretty injury prone too.

IMO it depends on how much these guys want, and what is available via trade. If guys like Marcum or Mccarthy dont demand a whole lot Id be interested (under 10 mil for 1 season) but otherwise Id rather see what we could get in a return through trade.

Dont really see AA spending big bucks on FA.

This. We should stop thinking anybody who costs more than say 2-3M is going to be added to the roster through FA.

Only way we take on additional salary is through trade, where we move say Buck/Lind/Arencibia and have $$ coming back.

Yep I agree with this. Im honestly hoping they make a deal around Arencibia for a pitcher. We need a solid #5 starter a lot more then we need the above average power for a catcher that Arencibia provides us.

Sounds about right. Prior to the Melky signing, Izturis had been AA's biggest FA signing. The trade route was necessary due to the lack of respect the Jays got the last 3-4 years. Now with Toronto looking like a good baseball destination, I could see AA opening the wallet a fraction of an inch, but not much more than that. I don't mind this approach one bit. Also avoids the whole, dishing out NTC situation. I hate how often they're dished out like candy. An FA signing with a new team should have to earn that NTC.

I agree, although I'd rather see JPA dealt in June after TDA has had a chance to get his game back in AAA .. This would delay TDA's arbitration eligibility for one year, help him get his swing back, and get JPA to provide a good bat in the line up .. In the meantime if AA can sign a couple arms to try and compete for a 5th starter, maybe he can find a gem .. If not he can then trade JPA for a viable starter at that point

Also depends on where the rest of the FA catchers go .. Perhaps one team who misses out will be willing to pony up big, I think that's one thing AA is sitting on and waiting for

Yep, catchers are no in sufficient supply. Especially when they have good bats too. Considering we have two that could potentialy start in the majors of which one is probably the best catcher not in the majors, it makes us a likely trade partner.

I dont know that I buy the idea that TDA will need extra time to get his swing back. Its the winter break JPA and Buck will have gone months with out hitting too by the time spring training starts, they will be just as rusty as TDA.
If TDA is deserves a spot after camp he should get it.

Nothing would make me happier to see him light it up and having an impact in the Jays line up with his bat, especially if he can power behind EE in the number 5 spot

Here's hoping

Just the way things are lining up...It looks like our bench will be: Rajai, Buck, Bonifacio + 1more.

Let's say Travis is ready... he could EASILY jump in and we would still be sitting pretty.

Right now we really only have 2 1B's on the roster... Lind and EE. If TDA makes the team out of spring training you could spread enough AB's around to accomodate everyone. It would push Lind to the bench. Your bench is now Rajai, Buck, Lind and Boni. TDA is playing 1st, C or DH. Edwin is playing 1st or DH, and JP is playing 1st or DH. The luxury of having Buck on the bench is that you can DH one of JP or TDA and still have a backup in case the one playing C goes down.

^ I kind of just worked this one out now... but AA's probably had this one figured two weeks before the Marlins trade went down

I will never understand why people want JPA at 1B or DH over Lind.
Lind is a much better hitter than JPA. Last season was Lind's worst as a majorleaguer and he was still better than JPA with the bat. JPA is younger and has good power for a non hitting position like catcher so he has more value but the Jays are a better team with Lind at 1B of DH than JPA.

So yea I dont think that is what AA has worked out in his head.............

I'd imagine a DH rotation of Cabrera, Lind, and EE throughout the season with a 1B rotation of EE and Lind unless someone gets traded .. Doubt a roster player gets signed

I think AA is done tinkering with that portion of the roster, unless a trade comes up he can't refuse .. His main focus would be on adding depth to the rotation and bullpen, which may or may not include a trade involving JPA

The White Sox have discussed deals involving Dayan Viciedo and Alejandro De Aza, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/1...or-de-aza.html

Depending on the price, Dayan Viciedo makes sense. He is a platoon player but man oh man, he rakes against lefties. Career .356/.390/.624/1.014 in 218 PA. He can't hit righties at all but platoon him with Lind, and you have a great platoon situation.

I wonder what the price will be, anything under 9-10M should be a great deal.
