If you could start an nhl team with any winger, who would it be? Why? Age and health matter.

I'm going to create a poll after I've seen 10+ responses, or a moderator can make one themselves if they're impatient. But I wanted people to think from their head and not just read a list of options, and I'd like to see the explanations that go along with that.

Ilya Kovalchuk. IMO easily the best all-around winger in the game.

If age matters, no way in heck. Ovechkin for me.

Add in Marian Hossa. He's a tremendous two-way presence playing on the right wing. Wasn't he also the scoring leader of the West - the defense heavy conference - in points last season? Also a 0.91 PPG through the last three years.

I guess 33 is a little too old though. Always seem to forget his age...

Honestly...I gave consideration to other guys, and I gotta go back to Perry. It's management and coaching's fault that they aren't utilizing him enough.

If I'm running an offensive-minded team, Ovechkin.
If I'm running a defensive-minded team, Parise.

Someone tell me if Steven Stamkos plays wing with Lecavalier or not. I thought he was a winger but Yahoo lists him as a center.

I'm surprised I haven't heard Patrick Kane's name yet. Best hands in the nhl, 24yrs old, and has averaged 26goals/76pts over his career so far. Sure he's had some good linemates, but he's produced pretty good without them too. A couple others I'm surprised I haven't heard yet either, but I like these names so far.

Probably Ovechkin, I still believe in him.

Still Kovalchuk or Parise, can't go wrong with either.

Don't get carried away, Hossa, St.louis, Parise are all better all round wingers. Kovalchuk has drastically improved his defense, going from horrible to average is a huge jump, but he's not elite in that category or anything.

That being said, personally I'd be building to win immediately or within the next few years and I'd take Kovalchuk because he's primed right now while the other guys I listed are getting up their with age or still recovering from injuries.

I would much rather have Kovalchuk over Parise, Hossa, and St. Louis they are all great players but Kovalchuk is a threat to score every single time he has the puck

St. Louis and Hossa I might buy. There is absolutely no way Parise is better than Kovalchuk. HF once again underrating offense. It's like clockwork.

Wanna know who HF thought was better when Parise was healthy?

Like I said, recovering from injuries, will he be as good as he was before? still remains to be seen.

But seasons of 45,38 goals and 94,82 points while having 5 30+goal seasons in his first 6 seasons, remind you of anyone else we're talking about? When he was healthy he was putting Kovalchuk like numbers out there while being an absolute stud defensively.

And like I as said, St.louis and Hossa are getting up their with age, but both could easily still put up 80+ point seasons while being better defensively then hossa. However this is a who would you build around and Kovy is just as good and younger so it's easily him.

Best hands in NHL = Pavel Datsyuk

Even if he currently isn't in the NHL
