Any advice on trading in this game? I feel like it's impossible to make decent trade even when looking at the trading block.

Make sure the value bars are equal or slightly in the opponents favor.
Think to yourself "would I accept this deal if I was the other team?".
If you're trying to trade for a player who isn't on the block, you'll have to overpay by a lot.

It's harder to make trades in general, but the trades that work are better than what the older games would let you get away with.

Step 1 is to make sure you look at the "skaters/goalies giving away" screen for each team. And by that I don't mean just the trade block, but the one you can see by flipping through the rosters. This is the full list of red-highlighted players that the other team is willing to trade. I tend to sort the lists by position and role, to get a sense of which players I could use the most.

After you pick a target, step 2 is to look at which players on your roster are green-highlighted. These are the players the other team wants. Obviously it's up to you to decide which ones to part with, but I'd suggest trading guys who are in the 23-24 range with a low rating (below 65) and still have enough potential to have a high trade value. These guys never work out for me anyway, so I trade them while I still can.

Step 3 is to just make sure the overall balance of trade value is fair. The computer generally won't take a bunch of garbage for a good player. You're best off either offering an equal player in a 1-for-1 deal, or a slightly lower rated player combined with a draft pick or lower-end prospect. Usually it's pretty simple to see if the trade value bars match up. If you offer a draft pick and the deal is rejected but the CPU says it's close, just bump the pick up by a round.

It's a slow process, but you can make some solid non-ripoff trades this way. I think it's better than the older trade engine that would let you just screw the CPU completely.

It really saves your ass with it turned of. I laugh at defensemen online that don't have it off. I have about 87 acc and 92 or so speed with my offensive D man and I can usually rush back to break up a breakaway almost every time. With it off, I'd never get back

I just hate the auto backskate motion that you can't turn off on defensive zone faceoffs

"All of them" would be a good start, EA.
At least they're finally doing an update.

90 speed is the max.
(Or 91 if you use +1, but I don't know why anyone would).

So I'm convinced that goalies lose IQ points with 3 minutes left in the 3rd period and OT (online).

Goalies let in absolute garbage goals in OT. It's ridiculously easy to score.

As for the 3rd period, was up 5-2 with three minutes to go... My opponent scores FOUR goals in the three minutes to win the game. Three of those goals were slap shots from the blue line as they skated into the zone. My frittata goalie bobbled the shots and they trickled in.

/facepalm

What's with the legal procedures?

Daniel Audette and William Couture were both added to the Sherbrooke Phoenix before any one of them played in the CHL.

If they have an agreement with all the leagues, I wonder why they have "procedures".

Allow me to give you a quote from EA about this topic,

It's amazing how many users underestimate the power of being knowledgeable and using your neutral zone and forecheck strategies, and adjusting the corresponding pressure.

Here's part 1 of my blog on strategies which focuses on the forecheck - http://www.easports.com/gamechangers...ategy-tutorial

There is no 'programmed' momentum or 'catch up logic' in the game. You have to adjust boys!
If nothing else, just set the CPU strategy adjustment slider to minimum and the AI shouldn't adjust.

The new roster update is terrible. Not because it doesn't do a good job adding CHL players, but it completely gets rid of all the prospects who just made the jump to the AHL. Come on EA, how could you miss that?

No Baertschi, no Saad, no Tinordi, etc.

Of course, they have to half-ass everything they do.
It'd make too much sense to just move the players that graduated on to the AHL rosters.
Some players also have their names announced as old players that they've removed from the game, like Afinogenov, when they should just have no commentary name.
They probably just pasted the new players over old player slots.
The fact that many don't have visors (something required in junior) and that most of their gear is Reebok (almost everyone has a CCM helmet and gloves) bothers me too.

At least they have all the players added, though.

Also, has anyone tried BAP with McDavid yet?
I was looking forward to that, but unfortunately his birthday is listed as 1962, so it'd probably be wonky.

Off the main screen, select:

- My NHL13
- Settings
- Controller Settings
- On the top of the screen, scroll down past preset, vibration, and shooting controls
- Auto-Backskate = off

I would also recommend turning off goalie covers and sweeps.
