Maybe, but the guy can't stay healthy. I am guessing he gets a bit more than Joe Blanton money?

Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeymanCBS
McCarthy gets 2-yr deal w very active dbacks

That's a bit surprising. I didn't think he would want a two year deal.

I think the Dbacks are another team that has a better rotation going forward than the Jays. However, this list is fairly small.

It's pretty weird how underrated they are actually.

Can't help but hear "D-bags" when people refer to Arizona...

Probably have the best pitching prospects in the league too with Skaggs, Bauer and Bradley, not to mention the graduates in Miley and Corbin.

Awesome deal. If he can stay relatively healthy and pitch to a level he showed he can last year it's a steal.

They have a pretty solid team. Kennedy, Cahill, Miley are all good young pitchers. Now adding McCarthy to that and potentially another top of the rotation SP through a trade for Justin Upton, they would be looking really good.

I doubt they're looking for pitching coming their way in an Upton deal. A shortstop is their biggest need.

If Romero returns to his #2 form then we have them beat.

Yea I know, Cabrera from Cleveland is the most talked about, but they would be so deadly if they got another quality SP.

I know they've been shopping upton since forever but why? Are they deep in outfield prospects or something?

I just dont think management at Arizona see him as the cornerstone player they once did. There have been rumours around him moving for like 3 years. I dont know the exact reason.

I've somewhat come around to the idea of JPA+Gose for Dickey. Dont like giving up Gose but with Dickey were prolly WS favorites and the buzz in this city would be insane.

It's kind of crazy that we can actually sit here and debate if its a good idea to add the reigning CY award winner and that were maybe one more big trade away from having arguably the best roster on paper.

They should be able to get it done for Arencibia and a pitching prospect outside of Sanchez/Syndergaard. Not that I want to give up another young pitcher, but there's depth there to deal, whereas position player options in our system are a lot fewer and farther between. If they insist on a young outfielder, throw in Sierra. But personally I don't move Gose.

I'm not crazy on it given Dickeys age. I'd like to go after Marcum. Gives you pitching depth, relatively cheap (8-9 mill per probably) and won't cost you Gose.. Or anyone for that matter.

Then if we were in the thick of things mid season, package Lind, Arencibia and Gose for a DH or something. At least then we'd know what kind of team we have. I'm up in the air on this team. Injuries is a concern, Melky could do great or go south after his suspension, Romero can't pitch like last season, etc. but the potential to be great is there.

I dont see it getting done with JPA and a pitching prospect outside of Sanchez/Syndergaard. Mets might be asking for more then hes worth but that trade package really isnt all that good and the Mets have said they want to fill the C and OF position with this trade thats why JPA and Gose appeal to them. The fact it sounds like Dickey is willing to sign a extension under good money parameters makes it better also.

I'd rather it be JPA and Rasmus but dont think that is as exciting to the Mets as a younger more controllable player in Gose.

I really hope we can sign Jason Grilli, he makes the loss of Oliver easier to take. Most likely signing with the Pirates though, right?

I wouldn't go that far. Just because AA is bringing in a bunch of big names players doesn't mean it will all work out. The Dodgers were a great example this past season. You never know how a player will react or perform in a new environment. I'm not saying the Jays won't be a top team, I'm just saying it could go either way, regardless of who AA signs/trades for.

The Red Sox are another example. Their 2011-2012 rosters were hyped beyond belief. Some claimed them to be the best RSox teams organized in franchise history. So let's wait and see before we start printing post-season tickets.
