I think, joking aside, kids (parents) can actually afford goalie equipment and special goalie classes nowadays. In the 90's?? Forget it. That was my experience, kids couldn't afford to buy skates or even lunch, much less the equipment.

With Naumenkov absent, maybe Tryamkin makes the team. He's having a heck of a year.

Zykov won't be on the team. He might get an invite, but the coach clearly doesn't see him as worthy.

I'm not too bothered by this. 17 year olds, unless they are Grigorenko, can always wait.

It's not about worthy or how coach sees him, it's the fact that it's a 19 year old tournament. And unless you're some wonderkid, like you said, which Zykov is not, you're not going to be playing. Simple as that.

Yeesh, Saskatoon is screwed. They can't afford to be losing him for a month.

There was no real goalie training before for the kids. Once they started it we started getting results.

I still get chills at this roster if Galchenyuk chose to play for Russia still strong without but imagine :

Slepyshev-Grigorenko-Kucherov
Kosov-Galchenyuk-Yakupov
Sigarev-Khokhlochev-Nichushkin
Kapustin-Tkachev-Shalunov
Zlobin

Just give them the Gold.

Couple questions here...

Whats the word on Grigorenko... I heard reports that he wasn't invited/may not play... but I notice alot of you are putting him on the roster. Will he play?

Secondly, for those of you who are living in Russia... what do you expect the attendance to be like across the tournament? What is the main arena like? Do you expect sellouts?

Father is Belarussian, Mother is Russian, born in Milwaukee. Could have played for any of the 3.

Those reports are false. He's on Russia's official camp roster, and he played pretty well in the WJC's last year until that ankle injury.

I hope Vasilevskiy (D) is not on the team! I hope Zadorov is!

Zykov showed some good skill in SSS and will be on the team next year.

Attendances should be decent but nothing compared with if it was hosted in Canada because of arena size and the popularity of the tournament being much smaller compared to NA. The Ufa Arena is pretty nice quite compact (8,000 capacity). I think the attendances will be a lot better than last time Russia hosted (Averaged 1,000 in matches not involving Russia), mainly because of higher incomes and Hockey has had somewhat of a resurgence here, plus hosting anything in Moscow outside of football is stupid. The KHL side that plays in the Ufa Arena averages around 7,000 per game. The other arena which is hosting Group A matches has a capacity of 4,000.

Sellouts for Russia games and possibly late on in the tournament.

All Russia games should be sold out by now I think. Other games, it will depend. But I heard from a lot of fans across Europe they are planning to go there.

Here are some pics to get a feeling about the arena. http://ufahockey.ru/1stat/1news/ufa-arena-vid-sverhu

It's not the biggest(8250 seats) but it's relatively new(2007) and is one of the best arenas in the KHL.

It's a much longer tournament than the SSS for example. It think in the group stage every goalie get's apporx. the same load. Their play will probably determine who will be the starter in the do or die games.

That's a rare case of being triple eligible !

I'm still a little surprised he didn't choose Russia..

Why are you surprised? He didn't want to affect his draft status by saying he's Russian.
