Thanks for posting. That seems about right to me. Of course, I've been saying the players hired Fehr because they need to counter Bettman after 20 years of his tactics, so of course I think it's right

Since it looks pretty dire that a season will be salvaged if this posturing continues..may I suggest we do mock GDT's

They put $100M of make-whole after the players agreed on 50/50 which was 7% of future revenues from what they were offering. The least the owners could have done was promise to pay in full all the contracts they spend so much money on in the summer leading up to the lockout.

The owners tried to shove a CBA down the PA's throat via confusion in shuffling people in and out of the room. The owners wanted a circus this week, and they got one.

Bettman was angry yesterday because it didn't work. They're going to put make-whole back on the table, and the players will eventually relent on it. I think term-limits will be 7 or 8. The length-make whole-term limits "package deal" will depend on the rest of it.

As with many CBA's, and then look up the ladder at politics, these things go to the brink. They will look over the cliff before hammering this out.

Fehr is exactly what the players needed and the owners/Bettman aren't used to being in a position where they don't get their way. If I were part of a union I'd want Fehr as my leader. He doesn't get flustered and he's an excellent negotiator. I didn't watch Bettman yesterday but I just read the twitter feed and it was quite entertaining. I can imagine how pissed he must have been when the players walked in and listened to him from the back of the room.

Yup. The article definitely nailed the part about the players having a natural affinity towards the game. They, just like everyone else, want to get back to playing hockey. It worked against them last time, and they lost during the last lockout. This time around, they brought in a brutal hardliner that won't be swayed by the threat of missing the game that they love. Say what you want about Fehr's tactics, but the players certainly won't be taking it on the chin this time like they did in 2004-2005. He won't allow it.

For those that care to join me, I have begun daily prayers that we can sneak a top 5 pick out of this lost season.

Top 10 seem to be pretty good. Hoping we can grab someone like Rasmus Ristolainen. Other then the sick name, he looks to be a good NHL player.

Other than the obvious Jones and MacKinnon picks... the other guy I love is Pulock. Love that 2-way game.

Gary's last handout stabilized them already - I'd put money on Phoenix (especially if they finally decide to cut ties with the city and want to raise the value of the franchise) or Columbus getting it this time around.

What happened this past draft?

Another wildcard name in the hat for franchise's that Bettman may think needs Mackinnon to stabilize would be Anaheim. They are probably going to lose 3/4 of their best players this offseason (Getzlaf, Perry, Selanne), the other 1/4 soon enough (Ryan) and got spat on my Schultz last year - definitely rocky roads ahead for them.

I mean how Columbus got robbed by Edmonton in the lottery for 1st overall.

Phoenix is a lost cause. If a struggling franchise has to get the pick I'd give it to Columbus.

Dallas could probably use a big star too, I think they've been struggling recently?

Dallas has Jamie Benn

Scored 63 or so points in 73 ish games

He's apparently a lock for 90+ points according to stars fans

Yeah he's good. He was killing guys last night.

Maybe there's not as many as last year, but there could be some good ones in the late 1st area. The WHL just keeps churning them out.

They didn't get robbed, it's a game of chance.

Good call, forgot about Benn. I don't pay much attention to Dallas, I think they're the only team I didn't watch last year.

I didn't watch much of them either, but hfboards forces benn down everyone's throats the way they did before Tavares broke out
