Jagr: What could have been

If not for games lost to lockouts ('94-'95, '04-'05, '12-'13) and his time in the KHL ('08-'09, '09-'10, '10-'11), would Jagr have passed Messier for 2nd all-time in points?

Regular Season:
Messier - 1,887
Jagr - 1,653
Difference - 234

Definitely. Jagr is one of the greatest wingers of all-time, "arguably" the greatest(at least offensively). And sometimes we forget about him and "take him for granted" by not bringing him up in some talks, but he deserves all the credit in the world. Thanks for reminding us.

When did Messier retire? Trying to figure how much he would have benefitted from no lockouts as well.

Even considering that though, Im 99% sure Jagr overtakes him for points.

messier lost out in 92 strike (for what little time it was) 94 lockout and retired after 03-04.

And yes, Jagr most likely would have passed him

Hell, he wouldn't have had to still be playing today.

If there was no 94 and 04 lockout, and he didn't go to the KHL, he could have retired back in 2010 and been at 2k all time.

I mean, you're looking at 3 and a half seasons where he could have hit 100 point in one of those seasons (not counting 94-95 where he lead the league with 70 in 48 games).

Without question. I know it's the Chech league, but just look at the numbers he's putting up over there right now at the age of 40.

Yes he would have.

Jagr better than Messier offensively.. but Messier was the better player.

Wonder what numbers Messier would put up if he wasn't behind Gretzky for 10 years.

Yeah, what terrible luck for Messier. He only got to play on the best team ever offensively for the first half of his career.

there is no argument for Jagr being better offensively than Howe.

He would have had to have put up an average of about 40 points a season.

Tough call...

Yes, there is, but don't see the need to argue about it here.

For this season right now he'd probably be working his way to 2000 points.

Yeah, on the second line.

He posted a career high 129 points after Greztky left.

Malkin posted his career high on the 2nd line.. I don't see the difference considering Messier still got appropriate ice time and didn't exactly play with scrubs either.
