Does anyone know how expansive this game is relative to Skyrim? Not just in terms of area of the map, but in characters you can meet, quests, sidequests, and other random things to do as well?
I've heard people saying it's "Skyrim with guns" so I'm just wondering how accurate that statement is.
I don't understand the disappointment with FC2. Was it disappointing because it wasn't like FC1? Well, FC1 was linear, like most shooters, so it was refreshing that they did something different by turning FC2 into a wide-open, go-anywhere, do-anything game, instead. It had some annoying issues, no doubt, but I was able to look past them enough to appreciate the game for what it did right, so I'm not sure why others couldn't, as well. People are suggesting that FC3 is nothing like FC2, but, from what I can tell, FC3 is wide open, too, so its gameplay bears a lot more in common with FC2 than FC1. It sounds like the developers simply took FC2's gameplay, moved it to the jungle island setting of the first game and corrected the few issues with FC2. I would think that, if you didn't like FC2's gameplay, you wouldn't like FC3's, either. I don't understand how there can be a "night and day" difference or "10x" improvement. Correcting a few annoying issues doesn't make that kind of difference unless you over-reacted to them in the first place, IMO.

Was that the reason? Haha. I just figured that someone didn't know any better. It makes me feel better that the reason was technical.

That's a tough comparison. I get Skyrim with Guns because you can do so much stuff, and there's definitely an RPG element to it with crafting, experience, skills, etc, but Skyrim has that Endless Quest thingy programmed in. This has tons to do, but probably not an infinite amount.
I'm a huge fan of the series. I actually liked part 2 more than part 1. I look forward to playing part 3. I'm such a huge fan of the series that I even watched the movie directed by Uwe Boll. lmao

While FC2 was a sandbox game, it wasn't exactly wide open. How much of the map was inaccessible "highlands" terrain? Some of the savannah and desert parts were pretty open, yeah. Then there were all of the canyons and funnels that you had to navigate with roving patrols complicating things. I haven't gotten FC3 yet but it's my understanding that more of the map is actually available to you.

By "wide open," what I mean is that, at any point, you could go anywhere in the map that you were previously allowed to go to. Portions of the map weren't closed off to you because you'd been there before and exploration required traveling through them again and again. Naturally, your movement was restricted in areas, but that's how geography (and level design) works. Just about everywhere where you could go, you could return to (which is why they necessarily had to implement a re-spawning system, though their particular implementation probably wasn't the best).
Unfortunately whomever told me you could strap c4 to a turtle was lying. I tried it but I couldn't do it. Unless there's some way I don't know about it seems its just a myth.
My god once you get the flame thrower it's not even fair. Burn down half the map lol. I've barely, barely touched the main story. Just finished the medusa mission which was a challenge, but fun and really teaches you how to use the stealth element of th game
About 14 hrs in, only about half done the missions and freeing the outposts although I did free all the radio towers.
I can't believe there isn't more talk about this game on these forums, it's really one of the best single player FPS games I've played in quiet some time. The whole "skryim with guns" comparison is pretty apt, it's not really as expansive as Skyrim in terms of items and customization but combat sure as hell is stimulating in comparison and makes up for it.
I've barely touched the MP yet, the little bit of it I did play I did enjoy though.
Far Cry 2 sucked donkey balls because of constantly respawning enemies.
The end.
Which actually reminds me.. Once the story is over, and all the outposts are free'd.. Is there any baddies to hunt down and kill or do I need to start a new campaign?
The farther I play in the game and the more outposts I capture I notice that more and more bad guys are around the outposts. Not in them specifically but in the area around just walking around.
Another thing, god damn those explosive arrows are so much fun.
Well, downloaded it last night, and I still have a week of school. Time to Fail!
