Maybe I just read this back a few pages is in this thread but I read somewhere the staff isnt impressed with Dumbas play at all this year but one of the Sutters said they should at least invite him to camp and see if he can turn it on.
Last night on tsn they interviewed Spott and he said he likes Murphy but Murphys really going to have to prove to the rest of the staff that he deserves to be there. They said its going to be a battle between him and Sproul for the PP qb spot.
With them saying that about Dumba that opens up a spot for a lot of guys, theres goingt o be a legit battle in camp
"Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has made the decision to attend the World Junior Camp in Calgary."
Wooo!
The WJC has been pretty fun to watch the last few years as an Oilers fan, looks like this year won't disappoint either. It's too bad about Klefbom but I can't wait to see RNH and Yakupov in this tourney.

It would be funny if right after that came out, the CBA was signed and then he wasn't allowed to go. No offense to y'all, but I'd prefer that twice over.

Of course you would. What's the Russian player you guys have who is playing first line centre ?
I wonder what kind of team the good ol USA will bring.
Danault 8 PTs in last 2 games wow beast mode. This team will be deeeeep
And as a Tigres fan let me tell you that points are not the reason why Danault will be a fan favorite. The guy plays the game like a pro. His hockey sense is juste tremendous. He is gonna shutdown Nail Yakupov, book it. His work in game 2 of the Subway QMJHL/Russia shlwdown was great to watch.

That's completely not what they said.
Spott said that he has faith in him, but Murphy will have to show the rest of the coaches what he can do as well. In other words he said he won't make the team just because he's his player, he'll have to play like he knows he can play.
Second of all, he made no mention of what role any player would play, let alone bringing up players competing for that role. I don't know where you got the Sproul and PPQB comment from, that interview was about Murphy and only Murphy. He brought up how good Murphy runs a powerplay but he didn't say that would be his role/nor that would be a toss up between him and Sproul.

Can we take Tyler Myers back? Let's not pretend that numerous countries have players born in other places. Sorenson for Sweden this year is another example. Either way, I was just saying that it would be kinda ironic. Nothing against Canada.

Big difference between Myers and Galchenyuk. Myers wouldn't have been a professional hockey player if he didn't move to Canada; his own words. Galchenyuk would have been just as good if he played for Sarnia's minor team at 15 instead of Chicago's (Age 15 was his only year he ever played in the United States).

Yeah, except that Myers credits his development as a hockey player to his move to Canada, which occurred when he was 10.
Galchenyuk, on the other hand, played a whopping one year in the US and his reasoning for playing for the US is that he liked it when he went there on vacation.

Lololol Myers came to Canada at 10 and admitted without that move he wouldn't have made it to the NHL. Have you ever heard the Russian speak English ??? I don't think he grew up in the states unless that's how Americans speak English !! ???? Bwahahah

The interview they showed with Spott last night (And this morning) is there. Second row.
Hmm I just read that recently I could've swore it was them talking in that interview where I heard that. I'll look for where I saw that. Basically said Dumba almost didnt get invited but Sutter put in a good word and that Sproul and Murphy are going to be in a battle for the PP specialist spot. They both could make it though since it doesnt seem like the staff is high on Dumba.
But in reality if Murphys coach wasnt coaching that PP spot should be Sprouls this year. It'll be interesting to see how it all plays out.
Do they take the 6'4 kid whose producing a bunch of offense and can hit, or the coach's player who isnt doing anything special offensively this year and is like 5'10 or 11 with no physical game.

Murphy would probably make it over Sproul if it was another coach too. First off, stats don't matter, it's talent level. Everyone know's Murphy is just about a better offensive defensemen than everyone ahead of him in scoring. Kitchener has only been getting offense from Puempel this year, and Puempel is more likely than not to generate offense on his own. Defensemen need finishers more than anyone else, and it's hard to put up gawdy numbers when they don't have them. No defensemen is PPG on Kitchener.
You've said before you've watched Murphy, but you saying he has no physical game really makes me question that. He's got probably the best hip check in the CHL, he's not afraid to go into corners (Battles he more often than not wins), and he doesn't shy away from contact. He's no bruiser but he's got a physical side.
Anyways, Sproul isn't the skater Murphy is, Sproul doesn't have the dynamic ability. Sproul isn't any better defensively (Murphy is the best defensemen defensively, on the best defensive team in the CHL). Sproul is a longshot, especially considering almost all the defensemen who are locks have a strong offensive game except Harrington. Murphy and Rielly will get the PP time, Murphy and Rielly will anchour the defense on their respective scoring lines. They don't need Sproul.

Huh?
He better have stats in the world junior games. I don't care about his talent level. If he doesn't produce, how can you justify bringing him? I want to win, I don't want to watch a player dangle around the ice and then lose the puck so the other team can score a few seconds later.
And you really need to stop this best defensive player-best defensive team thing. He's barely even a plus player. He's not terrible defensively (although I definitely wouldn't sign him up to put him on my Team Canada penalty kill), but there is no way he's the defensive shutdown guy you're making him out to be.

100% want Murphy on my team over Sproul. HF Boards can hate Murphy all they want but he's a game breaker who's played great in big games before (phenomenal playoffs player, great at the under 18s). I would have had him on my team last year.

There's no hate with me. Actually I like him a lot and have seen a lot of Kitchener games. Just don't like it when people pimp him out to be something he's not. It's like they are ashamed of the player he is. He is a brilliant offensive defenceman who brings a valuable puck possesion game that will be really helpful in Ufa. He'd be on my team too. Don't think any other team has a player like him. He's Canada's X-factor aka. 7th dman (unless he shows chemistry with someone). It's just annoying when someone calls him the best defensive defenceman as if they don't know him at all.

He said he was the best defenseman defensively on Kitchener.

Don't think anyone is claiming he's the best defensive defenseman period. I don't see why he couldn't be considered a good defenseman defensively on the Kitchener Rangers.
I think you're a Leafs fan. Surely you can see the parallel with a player like Rielly.
