Hey Ron, does the MLS make a new trophy each year or is it like the Stanley Cup?

I must confess I don't know the answer to this but I looked it up on Wiki and they didn't provide an answer either...however, I am inclined to guess its like the NBA where the trophy is actually GIVEN to the winning team every year (a replica each year).

Get this: the trophy is named the Philip F. Anschutz trophy!

Just to add: I really think the Stanley Cup is unique in sports. Unless someone out there knows of other sports/leagues that also award the same exact trophy to each successive champion...please input here.

The UEFA Champions League trophy is passed on from champion to champion unless that club has won it five times. If a club wins it for the fifth time, they get to keep that trophy and UEFA will make a new one for next year. I think only Real Madrid, AC Milan and Liverpool have won it five or more times.

And Galaxy owner Phil Anschutz accepts the Phil Anschutz trophy. Must be nice.
What's ironic is that he would have done the same even if Houston had won. :|

But the difference is Oscar De La Hoya would've been there with him.

Is there any possible way for the Lakers to get rid of Jim Buss? The Lakers have gone to **** since the bumbling fool has been running the show.

Supposed to be a top secret 30 mill? project. Taking out 7,000 seats, replacing all LED's, adding another "Dodger Vision" type screen.

So a 10-13 record gets you 7.5m?? Don't let the NHLPA see these numbers!

I hope the Dodgers don't go after RA Dickey. I don't care if he's a knuckle baller. He's 38. I want some ****ing youth on this team.

Sad day to be an Angels fan, would rather save the money on him and Burnett for one of Mccarthy, Sanchez, or Lohse.

The season ended pretty badly.

Its a lot of money but its only 6 years and he's only 29, the Boston trade was a lot worse to me then this deal

You realize Kevin Brown was 34 when he signed his deal, right?

Greinke is 29.

Kevin Brown actually pitched pretty damn well, too.

http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx...642&position=P

Worth the contract overall? No. Ace status 3 of the 5 years he pitched for the Dodgers? Without question.

To put it in perspective, when his deal expires, Greinke will be slightly older than Brown was when he *signed* his deal.

Yeah, Brown was 34 in his first year with the Dodgers. At that age, he didn't deserve a 7-year contract.

Then again, Zito was 28 when he signed his giant contract (pun intended).

did Brown have a better or worse injury history compared to Greinke during that age range, my memory is a little cloudy on how durable Brown was before he got to the Dodgers

I don't remember off the top of my head. Greinke doesn't have much of an injury history up to this point.

Quote:
No pitcher is completely without injury risk, simply due to the demands of the position. But you’d be hard-pressed to find a better candidate to give you 200 innings a year than Greinke. Over the last five years, he’s made at least 32 starts and thrown 200 or more innings every single season other than 2011, and that was because of a freak injury where he broke some ribs playing basketball. Just look at his Baseball Prospectus injury card; other than the ribs, he missed a few days with right shoulder inflammation in 2010 and two weeks in camp that year with dental surgery. In a big league career dating back to 2004, that’s it.
