I never realized until the recent purchase of the Dodgers for 2+ billion and their new TV deal how valuable they are. Would never have thought they were right up there with the Yankees.

#7 - Patriots

Wow.

What is it about the franchise? They don't have that "aura" to them as the others. I have to be missing something.

Brooklyn Dodgers
New York Giants
New York Yankees

They don't have that "aura", but they're historical value is pretty well documented. The biggest thing that happened to them was playing Jackie Robinson, and we all know how that changed the game.

I doubt the Leafs have that 'aura' either, but they're still huge. I think it's just the lack of a winning culture surrounding the team even though the fans are readily available every game and in massive numbers.

Seems like a crazy over payment, but I don't think the Dodgers owner cares.
His $24.1 million per year is only a quarter of what the team is going to get per year on their new TV deal. The Dodgers could keep spending if they really wanted to because that Greinke contract to them is peanuts, which is pretty amazing.

They have the biggest revenue stream in the NFL, thanks to massive sponsorships and a privately owned stadium (which is also the second biggest in the NFL).

The 95 Atlanta Braves weren't even the best team in 1995, it was the Cleveland Indians. The Braves pitching was elite, but their top position player had a 3.6 WAR.

If you want to see a stacked team, check out the 1998 Yankees and 2001 Seattle Mariners, and going back even further the 1927 Yankees.

Edit: The crazy thing about the 2001 Mariners is that they lost: A-Rod, Randy Johnson and Ken Griffey Jr. in 1999 and 2000. Had they somehow retained those three players they would have dressed the most talented lineup in baseball history, and it wouldn't even be close.

I agree with you about Kemp, Kershaw and Greinke, but not Adrian Gonzalez, his power has declined in four consecutive seasons, and barely OPS'ed over .800 last season. Suffice it to say, I think there is legitimate reason to be concerned with Gonzalez moving forward.

Why is A-Rod putting off the surgery till January? You'd think he'd want it done sooner then later so that he could be back sooner?

Better than who ? The Dodgers this coming year ? Phillies were highly overrated the last couples years, and the 2011 Phillies were eliminated in the first round by the Cardinals (who I still believe were better than the Phillies last year, but 99% of Baseball fans said otherwise).

Most of the best teams in MLB history none of us were born to see. Everyone talks about the Cubs in 1906 or 1907 being the best team ever, same with the Orioles in 1966 and Yankees in 1927.

I wouldn't say overrated (though I think Victorino was), they just have had a ton of injuries. Hamels, Lee and Halladay is an insane 1-2-3.

Id probably give that award to Tampa, Price-Hellickson is a great 1-2. It could be debateable though.

The Dodgers are gonna be pretty sweet, but one thing I can say is thank god they got him out of the AL.

Could anyone see us signing Orlando Hudson for a discount to have some depth up the middle?

I'd rather Dodgers.

Kershaw>Price (slightly)
Greinke>Hellickson

It's close, Hellickson is underrated.

But Nats Gonzalez and Strasburg combo is deadly. Then they still have Haren and Zimmermann.. Wow

Its a matter of perspective.

Kershaw is definitely the best of the four. But Hellickson is younger and has been better lately, thats why I'd take him over Greinke (just a matter of preference).

Man I am hoping Romero can get back to where he was two years ago. Imagine a one two of JJ and RR, both having ERA's around 3 and following that up with Morrow and Buerhle. Damn that would be deadly.
