I thought Greinke suffers from severe anxiety? As someone who also suffers from it, the idea of signing that contract AND pitch in LA, just seems crazy.

Then again, money talks. He's a great pitcher. But getting the highest contract for a pitcher in MLB history just blows my mind. He is not worth that money.

He pitched in LA last year without issue

As somebody who can relate to Greinke and his anxiety disorder, I can definitely see why he would go and pitch for the Dodgers. He probably wants to prove it to himself that he can. Anxiety disorder is a thing that can be controlled after some experience with it, and obstacles can be set and conquered.

Plus, the money was pretty dece too.

Anaheim is WAY different than LA.

Very true. But I don't see it working out. I don't know. By all intents and purposes he's figured out his ailments and seems to be doing it well, but he wouldn't sign with the more "big market" teams because of it.

LA is a big market now. I am very interested to see how it works out for the guy. I feel for him. Though, I hope the team fails miserably...particularly Beckett. I love me some Kershaw though.

I can only imagine what LA will have to give Kershaw to get him signed long term.

I'm really liking our 2014 lineup if we can land Hamilton. That's really our earliest time we can compete IMO. Barnes/DLR/Webster could make pushes to be in the rotation too.

Literally every post that you make in this thread involves Josh Hamilton. Why do you want him so bad?

Hamilton is not a fit on the team by any means. The Sox have a clear plan and unless Hamilton fall into the 3 years deal category, it's not happening. I'm glad to see Cherington sticking to his plan.

Yeah why would I possibly want the best hitter on the free agent market.

It would give us an outstanding 3/4 combo which our lineup needs.

He would definitely improve the offense, but they really need pitching. Since there's not much they can do via free agency to improve the pitching, I think they believe that signing Hamilton would not put them over the top. So since they are not convinced they can contend for a title, they aren't going to sacrifice a draft pick for a high priced player that won't address the main problem area.

I liken Hamilton to the Red Sox as Kessel to the leafs. Good player no doubt but this team is further than josh Hamilton from contending.

De la Rosa and Webster are probably going to be on the roster in 2013. Hamilton is a risk. Yes he's a great talent, but by many accounts is a bad teammate, clashes with coaches, and is a heroin addict. He is a timebomb and a distraction. The sox can't be the team who takes on his risk no matter how much it could potentially pay off given his ability

That's just a completely unjustified shot at his character. Dude has absolutely cleaned up.

There is no difference. Recovering alcoholics are still alcoholics. They don't get in front of their AA meeting and say "my name is... And i used to be an alcoholic."

Hamilton whether or not he is currently addicted or not is an addict. Recovering is just where he's at right now. He has had lapses with alcohol use in Texas, I'm not saying he'll have a heroin lapse, but I'm not saying he won't

Everyone knows what you were saying. That's the problem.

Defending that post is also awful.

Citing heroin addiction as a concern to signing a free agent seems valid to me.

With Dempster rejecting a 2 year / 25 million dollar contract, does anyone think the Sox will offer him more and a third year?

I hope not....but I could see them doing two years + an option.

In other news the Dodgers have signed Hyun-Jin Ryu to a 6 year/36 million contract. The deadline to sign him was today. By my count they are up to 8 SP's now. They figure to move Lilly/Capuano/Harang...Lilly is the only one on that group I would have any interest in.

You're really overreacting here. Everything Montecristo said is exactly correct. And it's easily the single biggest concern about Josh Hamilton generally, so it's not like his comment is even nongermane.

You need to accept that concerns about Hamilton's past addictions are legitimate reasons to be wary about signing the guy longterm. No one's saying he's a lock to go back to them, but it's an added risk, just like Greinke's anxiety.

Also missing the point. Last time you did you asked me to explain it. I did.

You ignored it cause it made you look foolish.

Let us skip to that point now.
