it's 10 years w/ an opt out after 8. His argument would make sense if they were changing the ELC and UFA rules...but the league dropped that.

I understand that a 10 year CBA doesn't allow a lot of NHLers to participate in the "bargaining process," but realistically, players negotiate every time their contract is up. It's not as big of an issue as Fehr seems to make it out to be.

A 10 year CBA is ideal. Allows for pretty substantial growth with uninterrupted play.

link? I think you have that backwards. The owners have been requesting a longer cba term, the players have been requesting the shorter. Thus the Fehr spin that he doesnt want incoming players in a few years to have to play under and agreement they had no say in.

B.S. is right, I gave up a lot of hope when Donald disagreed with everyone, including his own players on the 10 year deal. This guy is bad news and not interested in anything constructive at all. Of all the take-aways that the Players are being asked to accept, why argue over this positive issue ??

Donald has to put on a show and everybody loses...His moving goal-posts on demands...He plans on going to court next, plain and simple.

Anyone will budge on anything, even if they claim otherwise. The problem with that is, it may mean a lost season in this case.

You misunderstand the wording. He's saying that the players will ultimately accept the longer CBA BECAUSE the owners won't budge on the issue. Not that the players are proposing the longer length.

It's quite clear to me the owners are willing to lose the season. Otherwise, we wouldn't be standing here in almost the middle of December talking about how to come to a deal.

It's also quite obvious that the NHLPA, and this loser of epic proportions Fehr, will not negotiate in good faith until the season is on the line.

So here is where the owners are getting it wrong. They have all the power. So if you're willing to lose a season, and you're willing to take off the table a big element in the make whole, put your money where your mouth is and give the NHLPA a week or the season is done.

The only way you're going to break down a union that is lead by a dictator is to scare the members that aren't wearing the tinfoil hat.

Stop canceling blocks of games, because then you still give leverage to the NHLPA. Come out tomorrow, say that this is our last week or we're done and well try again in June. Cite sponsorship money coming off the table and the lack of integrity in a season starting in January.

Everybody has had enough. We went through this already, don't drag this to February. Who the hell wants to win a cup with a season that starts in January? It's been done before, but it's stupid. That means my Islanders could make it because HALF of the schedule is missing. That's just ridiculous. You want a season with integrity. Blame the union for that not being able to happen.

This dog and pony show is so yesterday. Get mean, get real, and put the season on the line. I think we, as fans, are ready for it. We need an end game. ALL OF US.

There will still be a season. They are way too close at this point.

They were close when there was a make whole of 300 million dollars. All of that is gone. Not only will the owners demand that number shrink because of games lost (which will happen tomorrow), they may not even put it on the table again.

The owners got what they wanted in 2004. Players came in at 45 million dollar cap, owners squeezed them to 39.

The owners went to 300 million to get a deal done late Wednesday night. The players, and the union, blew it.

Now let's get this fight going. Nobody has time for silence at this ****ing stage of the game.

Question for you, as a Hawks fan, are you going to show any animosity at all towards Toews, the lead moron for the NHLPA besides Campoli? I have no idea how I'd root for this guy with integrity after this show he put on with the NHLPA. Total toolbag.

100%. Those 3 reasons are incredibly foolish to lose a season over.

And i think both sides are foolish enough to do it. Especially since the owners have done it once before.

I don't think the sides are even close. If parameters were set and the PA wanted to ignore the Owners parameters... AFTER agreeing to them on Tuesday, then we aren't as close as everyone sees.

How about having Horcoff as our rep from the Oilers ? How he can sit there and argue, considering his massive underachievement of his Contract. As an Owner, I would laugh when Horc starts in on Make-whole, honouring the Contract that ya signed. How about living up to your Contract as a player and what consequence do you have ?? Oh thats right, nothing...or as the Players supports always argue, too bad if your a bad manager and hand out stupid contracts. Well, too bad for the Players now that the Owners want to fix some contract stuff and YOU gotta play in Europe (if ya can even get a job). Too bad Players...
