Lets say there are no NTCs or NMCs and just the idea of that trade. There can be plusses from each side, as on 1 side there is a 1B centerman that is older than the counterpart and has had his job 'stolen' by Stamkos while having a 7.7M cap hit, while on the other side there is a 2A centerman who is smaller but younger and a lower cap hit. What do you think?
Not a chance the leafs do it either.... with the cap going down how exactly do you just add a 7.7 cap hit without losing any cap yourself?
Were only ADDING 2.2 since Grabo is going the other way. I dont like Lecavlier's contract at all tbh, and he has sort of lost his stride, and its been a couple years now for people saying he had a bad season.
Tampa would have to do it. Lecavalier's deal is about to become a major boat anchor, he's still worth 5 but 7 with that kind of term is unreal. Grabovski is an often underrated player, an ideal #2 center/low end #1.
Lecavalier + Connolly for Grabovski + Colborne + 2nd
I'd do that. Imagine a 2nd line of JVR-Kadri-Connolly. Lecavalier is a better player now but if we are able to use that amnesty clause on him and get him to resign, we'd be golden. And to Tampa fans, you see Stamkos as the leader of this team now, correct? So you'd have to wait for Lecav to give the captaincy to Stamkos or for him to be traded, to get Stamkos the C.
edit: And for the people that will come in and say wow Lecav got less points then Grabo last year, Lecav with Fruit Loops and Kessel would be great.
I'd do it from a Leafs standpoint. Production between players are similar but Lecavalier is the type of big bodied centre Kessel and Lupul need to work the boards and bring some net presence.
Also gives TB some cap flexibility without losing significant offensive production.

Basically my reason for the trade that I'd want to do this. Grabo has bad chemistry with the top line so he is forced to play 2nd, which takes the spot from Kadri to develop in. Good leadership for the youngsters also.

That is 100% not true. We're fine with it and we have plenty of cap space, and with it more on the way in the coming years with Brewer and St.Louis coming off the books.

i dont think lecavalier is the target for the leafs. i could be wrong but he is older (than the core) makes a lot of money. also doesn't make sense to trade for him when there is such a good UFA crop and not knowing what the cap will be like in the new NHL.
It's an interesting tradeoff between salary, cap hit, age, size and ability.
Leafs would get the bigger and better player but would assume much larger future risk. I think Lecavalier has 3-4 good years in him but after that who knows?
Grabovski is slightly overpaid and Tampa might lack some size up front if they were to pull this deal, but he should be a 50-60p center through the deal.
I could see this being attractive to both teams for different reasons. It's all about what level of risk a team is comfortable with.

No, not correct at all.

Nobody has been saying that. He's had injuries during that time.
I don't care if Leaf fans don't want his contract, but Tampa is not looking to get rid of Vinny. Adding Connolly is laughable.
As far as what a fair deal would be, it would most certainly be Grabovski+
Most Bolts and Leafs fans would reject this trade. I'd do it in a heartbeat. Grabovski has grown on me over the past couple of seasons (I absolutely despised him when he played in Hamilton, and hated him just as much when he began his Leafs career). He's developed into quite a good second liner, very reliable and hard working. But then he got the new contract, and I believe the Leafs need to get rid of him. I like Vinny. Yeah, his contract is awful, but he's a great leader, he still produces at a good clip, and he's huge. I think he can still be a number one center on a lot of teams, and he'd certainly improve the Leafs.
As an outside opinion, this deal could potentially help both clubs. TB is fine with handling Lecavaliers contract, but Grabo has similar (maybe a bit less) production, but is in his prime, while Toronto gets a big center who can definitely fill the number 1 center position. On his bad seasons he produces like grabo
It would probably have to be grabo + something to give TB a little more incentive to make the trade. They basically get the same kind of offensive output (or a little less), but younger, which isn't all that important for them.
