This.

Considering most agents in these games load up for FA, someone is bound to get burnt. That's why it's good to change agents every game too, gives it a different approach, each agent has their own thoughts on the players they represent.

I've got a hole in my Top 6 now that Iggy burned us, but I can respect the decision, it makes sense and it has been seen before in the NHL.

Looks like you gotta get Burkey out of the office before you can lure FAs!

Just to add a few thoughts.

I think it's important to keep UFA signings to a minimum during the season so that there's some meat and potatoes to Free Agency. The big fish (Getzlaf, Perry, Edler) made it to free agency and that opened up options. On the flip side, teams that trade for these players apparently do get a slight advantage as long as their prepared to spend (Getzlaf and Edler re-signed with teams that acquired them). Course, that's just my opinion.

Also, I think we should have agents assigned by the draft. Too long of a delay and we lose fringe GMs.

I thought the agents did a great job this free agency.

I agree. Especially that Western D-men agent.

Also, suck it St. Louis. We got Schwartz, Rattie, Allen, Russell, Stewart, and your 1st for Giordano.
Not gonna lie, losing Iggy hurts, we thought St-Louis was a good fit. Don't forget that you gave us Laurent Brossoit too though

Pens bring in Parenteau to flank Crosby.

We were exhausting our options in free-agency and realized a top-tier puckmover was available via trade so we made the move for PA. Tyler Kennedy was a great player for us but we needed a Top 6 forward and we felt we could fill his 3rd line spot with youth or UFA acquisitions. It hurt moving Dumoulin, but we love Stetsenko, and feel he has a big NHL future ahead of him.

PA Parenteau
Sergei Stetsenko

Tyler Kennedy
Brian Dumoulin

Still looking for a 3rd/4th line winger in UFA.

confirm. We were surprised at the lack of interest in a player of PA's calibre but finally got an offer we liked and jumped on it.

Hejda, Giguere, Hishon, Mitchell and Zanon still available incase you hadn't heard.

Vincent Lecavalier has been traded.

With Steven Stamkos's meteoric rise atop the NHL as a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning, we felt that certain decisions needed to be made. Namely, what to do with longtime center and captain Vincent Lecavalier along with his gargantuan contract.

After doing some research, a lot of trial and error, we're pleased to announce we've finally found the right fit....and it's in the heart of Missouri!

Vincent Lecavalier

Matt D'Agostini
Ian Cole
Phil McRae
STL 1st 2014

Along with some financial breathing room, Tampa welcomes a young winger in Matt D'Agostini who will be looking to earn some top-six minutes and hopefully continue the promising play he showed in St. Louis. We're also pleased to add to our prospect cupboard with the likes of Ian Cole and Phil McRae, both of whom looking to earn a spot on the team out of camp. Oh, and the 1st next year is nice, too.

All in all, this gives Tampa some new offensive pieces to work with as we shift gears and move on, sans-Lecavalier.

We wish Vincent all the best as he takes on the next chapter of his career in St. Louis.

After Jarome Iginla returned to Calgary we needed to do something to stay a top the Western conference, adding a quality player like Vincent Lecavalier does just that. We expect Vinny to fit right into our system, and think he can regain form here in St-Louis.

A New Wardrobe; Hires, Fires, Trades and Signings in Columbus

The Columbus Blue Jackets continued to re-work the culture of their franchise, culminating with a flurry of activity this weekend beginning with the firing of head coach, Todd Richards.

"Todd is a very good coach in this league, but we felt a new direction was needed for our team to fully succeed and completely reboot the franchise." Jackets GM TribalPhoenix stated in a release this afternoon.

The team didn't wait long to fill the position, as it was announced later on that the club had hired former Toronto Marlies head coach Dallas Eakins as the new head coach to a multi-year contract.

"Dallas Eakins is one of the best young coaches in hockey, and deserves a chance to show what he can do in the big show. His work with the Marlies has been spectacular, and he has shown the ability to develop young talent, as well as work with established pros. These are skills that are sorely needed with our club. We're thrilled to have him aboard."

The work didn't stop there - the club also announced the signing of free agent forward David Clarkson to a 4 year, 16M$ contract.

"David is a two-way talent that is going to really shore up our right wing position. We see him in a top-six role, along with newly acquired Teddy Purcell, which will give Brett Connolly the time to properly develop his craft in the AHL where he should have been from the beginning."

Finally, the club pulled of a trade to give itself it's first established veteran netminder in recent memory, as the club acquired goaltender Tomas Vokoun from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for the Jackets 2nd round selection ni the 2014 Entry Draft.

"Tomas is a veteran guy who can play 50-55 games for us, while Sergei Bobrovsky gives him a reliable backup to provide the rest he will need. We see Tomas as being a long-term solution for us in net, and have already contaced his agent about a possible extension. We feel this tandem will give us a reliable solution in the nets while guys like Oscar Dansk and Zac Fucale continue to develop in junior and the AHL. We're very happy with this trade."

No Murray?

And Nikitin is probably better than half of your starting defense.

Nikitin > Hannan at this point, probably reaching Scuderi levels at this point. He's very underrated.

Yeah Ryan Murray should probably make that blueline.

That said, he IS injured IRL, I believe.

Nope, we're not rushing Ryan. He'll develop in the AHL. We're not rushing our prospects, so when guys come up they're going to be ready to contribute.

And Nikitin will be in there... I just threw together the pairings, they'll change substantially between now and game 1. Realistically, Hannan will likely be our 7th defenceman.

We're going to be carrying 8 defencemen to see how it goes.

I know he gets the starting job in Columbus but sill, why the hell would Vokoun waives his NTC to go there?

If he earns a spot in training camp, he'll be there. But we're changing the culture of the team - being a high draft picks and a buck will buy you a cup of coffee when it comes to cracking our lineup.

No more free rides!

He gets in on the ground floor of a team with the most dynamic group of prospects in the game, while also taking over a starters role on a club with a totally new coach and vastly changed roster.

We told him we weren't interested in him being a rental - if he plays at a good level, we're interested in keeping him around for the next few seasons. We're a very different team now than we were when we started - youth, experience, leadership. Our goal is playoffs next season, and we think it's possible with the right coaching and development of our players.

The main reason he signed as a backup in Pittsburgh was because he wanted to win, he wants a cup.
There were a few teams that offered him a starters spot (like Toronto for example) and he turned it down.

He'll be 37 next season, so he doesn't have much time left, and Columbus isn't going to be a playoff team for a few years minimum.

But then again I'm biased this game, as IR and RR know how I feel about players waiving NTCs.

The whole 1A/1B thing isn't going to help Fleury's morale (IMO), it's going to cause shaky confidence and worse performance.

It's not like I asked him to waive at the deadline. He had a playoff run with the team, it didn't work out, and we wanted to move forward with some new faces. Vokoun then has 1 year left on a contract where he was going to be a legitimate backup, can't see the guy wanting to stick around in that situation again.
