Here's the US prelim roster - Kuraly is on it.
No real surprises as every player listed was invited to the summer camp with the exception of Grimaldi (inj) and Barber who has had a ridiculous start to his rookie year at Miami.

I'm jazzed that Kuraly made it, even with his slow start to the season. They probably figure that he will excel in a limited format. Best of luck to him.

Team Canada released their WJC training camp roster last night/this morning. Not much of a surprise, but no Sharks made the list. The only realistic candidate was DeMelo, but in part because of the lockout there's an extra deep pool of candidates, especially on the blueline.

http://www.tsn.ca/world_jrs/feature/?id=81742

There are two Sharks connections on the roster though: Dougie Hamilton (Freddie's little brother) and Adam Pelech (Matt's little brother) are there to challenge for spots on the team (well, in Pelech's case at least. Hamilton is probably as close to a lock as you can get.

PollakOnSharks 3:43pm via Web Actual hockey news: #Sjshark prospects Tomas Hertl (Czech Republic) and Sean Kuraly (USA) invited to national junior team selection camps.

Kinda assumed Hertl might be there. Nice to have confirmation.

Can't wait til we sign Dougie for $100 million in 2020.

Literally every time I tell myself I'm going to get up early to watch Hertl's game an then don't because I'm too tired, he scores. If I do manage to wake up and watch, he doesn't.

A single game (Dec 2nd vs. Miss.) scouting report from Gus Katsaros of McKeens Hockey on Chris Tierney. Tierney's been playing at a high level for the past few weeks and if anyone wants to watch him, the Knights will be playing the Ice Dogs today at 4pm on the NHL Network.

Quote:
Chris Tierney C – (2012) San Jose 2nd 55 overall

Sharks second rounder was patient with the puck while maintaining urgency and the pace required at this level .. good puck protection skills along the boards, strong core strength as he plants and twists his torso to move pucks away from oncoming defenders .. a first penalty-killing pairing forward .. features a good active stick, instinctively getting his stick and body into passing lanes and taking away immediate space .. effective as a high PK forward .. wide skating base, horse shoe stride .. speed is adequate when considering the short length of his stride .. showed how he processes the game and his skill level without his stick, banking a beautiful pass off his foot while tied up by a defenseman with his stick tangled .. performed a really high end skilled move with quick thinking to get the puck to an open man advancing the play .. went straight to the net to pick up a rebound from anAndersonshot to score the 3-1 goal .. one of the better forwards this game.

reminder that Niagra @ London (Tierney) is on right now on Sportsnet in Canada and the NHL Network in the US.

Tierney wears #71 for the Knights (in the cream/green jerseys)

Tierney hurt his wrist left game after second last night. He has been playing very good hockey on London's 17 game winning streak

Would be interisting to know, how you think about Konrad Abeltshauser, how do you think he will pan out?

I've watched quite a bit of Abeltshauser over the past few years and his development has gone very, very well. There's still some things he needs to work on (like using his size more) but in my opinion his upside is probably a 2nd pairing two way d-man, likely a #4.

Halifax has missed him (defensively) since he broke his wrist.

Well, he's Benn Ferriero...not good enough for an NHL top 6 role and wrong skill set for the 3rd and 4th lines. So he could make the roster, but where does he play?

backup goalie. The Sharks have never been able to replicate the gate-opening greatness of Dmitri Patzold. Maybe Kennedy could fill that void.

Hand to God here...not a WorSharks home game goes by that we don't make fun of Dmitri Patzold at some point.

Sateri's looking quite good out there. I was really impressed with him in the third. I still wonder about his glove but does anyone else think he could usurp the starting gig in the next few weeks--especially if he stays hot and keeps winning? I think it'll be a timeshare for the foreseeable future because Stalock while his last two games have been rough (especially that Portland game) hasn't been that bad and I think he still carries favor with the Roy and company.

As much as I want to see the next game, I'm more interested in seeing who gets the nod against the Whale. Not being a back to back, I think the nod will be quite telling of what the team thinks. Then again it could just be a move to go with the hot hand. It's like the Sharks have an AHL version of Elliot-Halak on their hands with a 1A, 1B tandem. A good problem to have.

Please tell me why Stalock's last outing was rough.

Pretty accurate. He's stepped up his defensive play, in that his pinches are better timed and doesn't get caught as much. I don't think he'll ever be a "physical defenseman", nor did anyone, but he's played with more edge this season. Same ol' Konrad offensively. I think he'll top out and be a bottom pair guy.

Our D realllllly needs him though. He's flown home to Germany and will return on the 27th.
