As far as recruiting players for different positions, it happens all the time. There was a kid from a town in southern Alabama who wanted to play QB but the teams from that area wanted him to play WR or DB. He went to WVU to play for your friend Rich Rod IX where he won two BCS Bowl games and holds the record for most rushing yards by a QB. Saban recruited Pat White as an athlete, with no intentions of playing him as a QB. Just one of many examples.
That being said, Mack Brown still needs to go. And it has nothing to do with his recruitment of these lst two Heisman winners, it's the fact that his defense was god awful this year and it wasnt good last year either.

But I was told Texas allegedly had defensive talent
Problem is that he hasn't found a competent DC since Muschamp jumped to be head coach at UF.
Though yes, they probably could use a wholescale culture change in Austin. Mack should be looking for a new DC right now, and if that doesn't cut it in 2 years, Mack goes as well.
What should've he done differently last year? Put Cutler and Forte in bubble wrap?
Not let Martz his BFF continue to run offense as if Cutler was there
Hanie should have been playing a less risk offense..
And last year he got a pass ,, This year he has no excuse for his team to blow it especially the gutless effort from his defense vs Seattle and now this
Since the Bears lost SB ,, Lovie's record
07 = 7-9
08 = 9-7 (Blew playoff spot in final game of season)
09 = 7-9
10 = 11-5 ,,, Lost NFC Champ game
11 = 8-8 ,,, After starting 7-3
12 = ? ,,, After starting 7-1

I have to agree with BWC on this one. If they fail to make the playoffs after starting 7-1 & with a healthy Cutler & Forte down the stretch, than Lovie has to be on the hotseat. (and I have been a Lovie defender up til now).
There was no excuse to lose last week or this week, none whatsoever.
Funny that his AFC equivalent Norv Turner came up with a surprise win today as well.
Agree with BWC that Lovie should be toast if the Bears blow a 7-1 start, though I never thought Lovie was anything special to begin with. This would just be the straw that broke the camel's back.
Not that I think Harbaugh is on the hot seat, but Baltimore is not a well coached team IMO. Today was the third game they've blown to an NFC East opponent (well, they survived the Dallas game). That crap division should have been an easy 3-1.

This is exactly my sentiment. Brad keeps saying that Mack Brown is a legend around the city of Austin, which is false.
As well, Griffen wouldn't have seen the field for at least his junior year and who knew Manziel would have been that good? Texas has 4 quarterbacks on their roster and the number 1 QB in the state of Texas next year!

Tyrone Swoopes. Red shirt next year, and then should take over for whoever they have in two years. But he's the number 1 (or was) QB prospect in the State of Texas.
