Do you mean the weakest Slovak team in WJC history? If you do, IMO its not true.
I think, that team of 2008 was worse.
The 2008 team had hudáček in goal though, who was asides from Janus our best WJC goalie in recent years. That can be a big difference maker.
It will be really tough.
Bokroš seems to prefer Orange guys over guys who can get playing times on men´s teams... I really wonder whether unter would have been electe dif not for his injury.

I remember Hudacek, he was good... Where is he these days ?
Well hopefully some players surprise, Tomas Tatar wasn't exactly known before the WJC but no player on this current team has had a dominant season close to Tatar's in the Slovak leagues so I don't expect the same kind of heroics.

Marko Dano is playing really well with Slovan in the KHL. He should be the top player for this team. He had 3 pts last year as a 17 year old, I expect improvement on that this year. They'll likely need big production out of him and Tomas Mikus on the top line in order to have a chance, and those guys can certainly produce. But they will still be very hard pressed to make quarters, at best.

The oilers are having crappy luck, both Klefa and Gernat were poised to play big roles for their respective teams this winter but both are injured. Brutal luck.

Tatar might not have been known internationally, but he was well known between Slovak league fans. Though his season in the Slovak league was hardly dominant back then... Actually statswise he was doing similarly in the Slovak eague as Daňo is in the KHL...

The question is, how will they fight with the pressure to be the leaders.
Wow Tomas Jurco is 3 days away from being eligible for this tournament. I know rules are rules, but for the sake of all of us it'd be nice if he found a fake birth certificate for this one. I still can't believe Slovakia's luck that two of their three NHL drafted players are hurt this year.
So who on this team is worth noting besides Dano, Reway, Ceresnak and Mikus?
Richard Mraz had a solid WjC last year in the first line with Chovan and Jurco. He has serious health problems during spring/summer, not a good start into season in OHL, but I hope he will be in form right during WjC.
Milan Kolena could suprise, if Bokros choose him into TOP 6 forwards.
And of course Denis Hudec is worth noting, son of Zigmund Palffy
Patrik Romancik is gonna be the next Jaroslav Janus
I wish I had your optimism. No offense to Patrik, but he has to avoid his typical performance fluctuations. Then we can talk about him as the next Janus.
The best team was when you guys had Janus in net who was just stellar and Panik and Tatar at forward and beat the United States for the bronze medal. Ill never forget that game, Tatar and Panik made Mccollum the us goalie look silly in net.
Can't wait to see Dano. I think this kid's going to be a great NHLer one day.
Really upset that I won't get to see Gernat and Tvrdon. These two guys would be huge pieces for this team in the tournament and could be the difference between relegation round and the quarter finals. Really sucks, but hopefully the Slovak's will do well on the big ice.
Who will be captain? My guess would be Ceresnak as he's the best defenseman on this squad and has captained the national team before.

That was a good team. Not the best, but the best showing in recent years for sure. I'd argue that the team they ran with last year was equally as good. Lot's of good talent with Jurco, Tvrdon, Marincin, Gernat, Ceresnak, Chovan, Janosik, Cajkovsky, Matousek and Mraz. Really weak goaltending sunk that team.
IMO, the best Slovak team was on 1999/2000 WJC. Unfortunately, only on paper. The final result was bad. No, it was horribly bad. The relegation to lower group was really close. In the last game, they won after shootouts and that saved Slovakia.
Here is the roster
Defense
Dušan Devečka
René Vydarený (Vancouver Canucks, 1999, 3. round, 69.)
Vladimír Urban
Tomáš Starosta
Marek Kolba
Branislav Mezei (New York Islanders, 1999, 1. round, 10.)
Ladislav Harabin
Kristián Kudroč (New York Islanders, 1999, 1. round, 28.)
Forwards
Marián Gáborík (Minnesota Wild, 2000, 1. round, 3.)
