Something truly absurd, I guess. Teams are always willing to open the wallet for ace pitchers that hit the market.

Indians sign Mark Reynolds for a year at $6m and plan to start this Chisenhall kid at 3B
Why that matters? Indians were the other team aside from the Yanks known to have offered Youkilis a contract

I was just going to say that this could be bad for the Dodgers when it comes to locking up Kershaw.

They've gotta move somebody
Kershaw, Beckett, Greinke, Billingsly, Capuano, Harang, and Lilly are all on the roster and are guys that could start on just about any team

There are alot of rumours about a Shields-Myers swap between the Royals and Rays
EDIT: Official
http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?...r_mlb&c_id=mlb
i think its alot for the Royals to give up for a 31 year old pitcher, but they had to "go for it" one of these years. may as well be 2013.

Do the Indians have a 1B? Youk is better there anyway, IMO

Apparently the other prospects going to Tampa (Odirizzi and Montgomery) project to be top 3 pitchers as well. Rays made out like bandits.
Also not a bad short term move for KC, they traded minor leaguers so the lineup is still intact. Shields will eat innings up and Davis is a good back of the rotation guy.

Having too much quality pitching is never a bad thing these days. If they need to, they can trade one for a good return. But they might reasonably decide to hold onto them.

completely off topic, but all this talk about the Rays pitchers got me thinking... what happened to Scott Kazmir? i remember when i was pretty young hearing about how he'd dominate the Jays, but i havent heard about him since

He was playing with the Angels a couple years ago but couldn't stay healthy. Lost his fastball speed and that was the end of his MLB career. He's probably buried in AAA somewhere or in an independent league.

I don't think they have a for sure 1Bmen so he could still be an option there if he wants to play 1B
Regarding Kazmir, he was throwing in the mid 90s in Puerto Rico last week and apparently has a number of teams showing interest

It seems weird as hell, but if he can still play, I can put aside the history.

Youkilis is a Yankee.....1 yr @ $12m
Meh, indifferent about it......could have spent $2-3m on Chavez or Keppinger and then put the rest of the $$ that went to Youk into bringing back Martin

I see bums who look nicer than Youk...good grief.
I'm indifferent too because I have a feeling he'll actually help.

I can't really complain about having Youk for a year, he's the best player on the market and we need a third baseman and back up at first.

I've seen bums in NYC better kept than Youk. Thankfully he won't look like trash.

Don't worry, they'll make him shave.
I agree it is weird though. He's one player I never expected to root for.
