Wonder what those other prospects are. Myers will be scary good but this helps us short term

hmmm interesting trade. It seemed like it was just a matter of time before Tampa let one of their top guys go. When should we expect to see Myers in the Majors??

Yessss! Tampa weakens their pitching but now they have a potentially great bat. Could be good or could struggle next season so maybe this weakens them a bit short term? Helps them long-term though.

Its too bad we're in the same division because I think Shields would have been a perfect fit for us (better fit than JJ abd Buehrle IMO). Extremely durable and great performance.

As good as Shields is, I think they also get a huge piece with Wade Davis.

damn, i wanted the royals to keep myers as he looks scary good. i guess the rays may not be that big of a threat next season, not saying they won't compete as they can compete with any team as long as they have maddon behind the bench.

on paper this division looks to be ours, hope we can live up to the billing.

Weakens Tampa this year for sure so that's great for us.
There will likely be many more prospects going to TB for those two. Myers is a big pick up for TB though

Why does it feel like I'm the only one that absolutely loves James shields as a pitcher? Him and JJ were my two favorite non jay pitchers. We got one

I guess it was okay they let Upton go, Myers will make up for it.

Shows what happens when you build your team properly, you can trade your aging top players for young players that will be with you for a while.

This is why I hope AA keeps drafting pitching. You can never have too many good pitchers and it is much easier to trade pitching for position players than the other way around.

Its not that Shields is bad, its that TB had no chance of re-signing him after this year and they turned him + Davis into what are probably 3 top 50 prospects (at worst 3 top 75)

Sheilds is a very good pitcher but the Rays have tons of pitching depth and this wont hurt them much in the long run.

All of them are top 10 prospects from what I'm reading. For 2 years of Shields...yikes. They better hope they can extend him, and fast.

Montgomery isnt up there anymore. He's been a mess for little while now but if there's someone that can fix him it's Rays.

Yep this is one of those moves a deep, properly built team can make, turn your top players into top prospects to replenish the system and keep your team at the top.

The is a massive difference in how the 2 Florida teams are run. One may be the best run organization in baseball and the other is easily the worst.

Rays are going to be fine next year. They still have terrific pitching with Price, Hellickson and Moore. You also have Archer, Niemann battling for the final two spots and maybe Odorizzi finds a role but the Rays are still going to be tough.

Well, I'm just saying that everyone is just going off saying the royals got shafted. It's not that great when you lose a top prospect, but they got a true #1 starter. Personally I'm ecstatic he's out of the division

Rofl.

Rays still have: Price, Hellickson, Moore, Niemann, Odorizzi, Cobb, Archer.

They just acquired a middle of the order bat for the next decade (if they play their cards right) plus good prospects for a back of the rotation starter + 2 years of control in Shields.

Sorry guys. It was nice knowing you all. I just became a Rays fan.
