Lawrie isn't a NEED for them with Longoria manning 3rd base for them. They could put him at 2B but for fantasy proposed trades let keep him out of the deal.

The package would defiantly start with D'arnaud... Than add one of our top pitching prospects, they would probably choose Aaron Sanchez (who scouts say is a LOW end of Garza, high end Verlander) and than the negotiating for the other two prospects is discussed. I think this would be the basis to any trade in an attempt for the Jays to land Price. Price is a top 5 pitcher in the game, the "price" (get it) would be pretty high.

We're still left with the lesser of two evils.

Price career vs Jays: 2.29 era, 1.06 whip, 7.8 k/9

If we have to play Tampa in a 1 game wildcard playoff....

I'm half-hoping they take the division.

i wouldnt go beyond that
if price wants 20+ million per then i wouldnt bother
may as well spend it on a top free agent pitcher when the time comes
the best starting pitcher in 2014 FA is Josh Johnson lol.

bottom line is tampa cant afford to keep their top players and will keep trading top vets for top prospects (except longoria)
it will be to their eventual ruin

I wasn't serious with the Friedman thing but yeah, I think if AA were to be promoted to President, the assistant GM (Tony LaCava I think?) would take over the GM role.

Jeff Passan ‏@JeffPassan

Myers for Shields wasn't only straight-up deal Royals tried. KC offered Wil Myers to Oakland for Brett Anderson and were turned down, too.

Holy ****. A's turned down Brett Anderson for Myers!?!?! Like yeah, Anderson is really great when he is healthy but he's had struggle staying healthy. Man, front of the rotation guys under control are crazy expensive.

Maybe not but Passan is a credible source. I don't think he would just throw that out there without a good source and who knows, I'd think Royals were shopping around Myers desperately looking for pitching. But I can see why it would be hard to believe... but then again, A's have a good outfield and will need good pitching if they want to contend. If they truly believe Anderson is healthy, I'm not sure I would want to deal him either because he could be an ace (but then again, him throwing his sliders like 35% of the time, its hard to see him staying healthy).

They didn't blow it up. This quite possibly didn't even put a dent into them for this upcoming season, and it for sure improved them going forward.

I dont buy that. They just lost a consistant durable 15 game winner with sub 3.50 ERA that was top 20 amongst pitchers in WAR.

The deal is awesome for the Rays longterm but they certainly put a dent into next years team unless Myers comes up and is Trout circa 2012.

They're not blowing it up. They're staying ahead of the curve. They can afford to sacrifice Shields & Davis with the pitching depth they have, and in return they get a player who will be a potential Longoria-like cornerstone for years to come, along with a whole lot of other valuable assets. I'm not as high on Hellickson as some, but between him and Moore and Niemann and whoever else, they can make up for the loss of Shields and Davis now and in the future. Maybe they're slightly worse off now, but it's not like they just pulled a Marlins and jettisoned all of their talent. They've still got at least 4 very good starters in that rotation moving forward.

This is what the Rays do to stay competitive, and it is in part what the Jays have wanted to be able to emulate: To have the organizational depth to be able to trade off valuable assets with an eye toward the future without having to take significant losses in the present. The one difference is that the Rays do it out of necessity because they can't afford to pay a high-priced lineup, while the Jays will be able to pick and choose more often what they want to sell and what they want to keep because they will have the money available to retain their most important core players.

Can anyone tell me what a equivalent player Myers would be in hockey? How good is this kid?

Even though they've lost Shields + Upton, I think they'll do very well next season.

Moore had a roller coaster year
Longoria was injured for majority of it
Jennings showed no power (unless he was facing the Jays)
Joyce and Pena weren't providing as much value as you'd expect
Niemann was injured

Longoria will likely go back to 5+ wins next year and win MVP, Jennings would probably hit 20-30, Moore gets the Cy Young and Myers gets ROTY.

There's something in the water down there.

Huberdeau?

It's really hard to compare the two sports.

No matter how you slice it, it is a terrible trade. I have a very hard time believing that Dayton Moore offered that trade, and an even harder time believing that Billy Beane turned it down.

The fact that Jeff Passan is spreading the rumor doesn't solidify it's validity either. Passan is a columnist for Yahoo, what credible sources does he have?

I'll give KC some credit here, they are finally improving their major league roster after what seems to be a decade long rebuild. Time to spend some prospects and money on the big club. Sure the price was big but that division is wide open. The Tigers are good but everyone else can be beat. KC made a good move here. They have to keep Shields though, they have to find a way to extend him or this could blow up in their face big time.

His 26/37 double HR ratio does not seem sustainable. That would put his pure power in the range of Mike Stanton. Considering his contact tool, I would think he had quite a few Just Enough HR's.

Does this mean Price will now test Free agency next offseason?

Jays have to do something magical this season.
