One that I've read about and really wish I could find video of:
Against the Golden Seals, Bobby Orr got hit at center ice and lost his glove. The Seals dumped the puck in, and Orr went back to get it, started an end to end rush, and picked up his glove at center while stickhandling with one hand. He got in for a shot but Gary Smith made a save.
Apparently, both benches groaned at the save.
even don cherry can't find a video of that play, but he talks about it in one of his episodes of his old tv show he used to have before getting onto cbc.
Couldn't find a video but I remember seeing Benoit Pouliot get tripped on a breakaway and almost scoring from his knees, but the net got knocked off before the puck went in.
I also remember a pre-season game where Nathan Gerbe did a between-the-legs deke past a Montreal defender and almost scored. It was sick.
This goes on Boyle's career highlight reel if it goes in. It's not every day you pants Suter and Weber.
Actually to be honest Suter's pretty weak as a one-on-one defender. Spectacular "team defender" in his ability to use transition, skating and awareness of teammates to maintain puck possession while on the ice. But as a pure one-on-one defender he's pretty easy to exploit. Thinking back to some more notable plays...
this should've been a goal if there is a delayed penalty and a puck is going towards the empty net and one of the back checkers gets hooked and the puck goes in it would be a goal, also no capital had possession of the puck
I wish I could find it... but Dainius Zubrus scored a crazy awesome coast to coast one year with the Capitals... only to have it waved off because a fight started before he could finish the play and score
I thought this rush came closer to a goal than it actually did, but I guess I'll post it anyway since I went through the trouble to find the video. Unfortunately this was the best video I could find.
