No, they don't.

It is a fact that the NHL threatened that offers would get worse after the 82 game offer. It is also a fact that the offers never got worse and have in fact continued to get better.

It's also a fact that the NHL has made offers (official or not) that were characterized by them as take it or leave it.

Chicago is where Bill Daly and Steve Fehr met one weekend in October or November.
Billion dollar league and they don't have office space anymore in the biggest city in the world...

Man, I guess this league is really losing money.

Well, it certainly wouldn't be a first for Bettman. It would be a fourth: kind of like being the first commissioner to perform a quad work stoppage.

NHL and NHLPA trying to set meeting for Wednesday. Hear it could be overseen by federal mediator as union asked for last week. #NHL

Not in Canada, you're kidding yourself if think the Canadian NHL franchises will suffer.

In the States the hardcore following will remain, but if there's a long term CBA in place it'll give them time to claw back in.

I'm not crying for the players, they do just fine. I was responding to a post that made it seem like a CBA that is good for the owners is also best for the health of the league, something that isn't true. The best thing for the health of the league is a system that makes owners run their team well to make money, because as fans we all deserve to follow a team that is well run.

um yeah, that's not hyperbole, is it.
Well, no. It's not hyperbole. He's had a LOT of lockouts. Fehr throws strikes around too, and I'm sure he'd arrange one...but he hasn't had the chance to do so.

I'm not saying the players are being treated badly. I don't know how the players personally feel they're being treated, I'm not a player. Were the players being abused in 1992? "Abuse" isn't required for a strike...all that's required is one party feeling like they aren't being treated fairly.

Also, it requires a CBA that doesn't ban strikes.

And guys like Redden and Huet wouldn't count against the cap.

I always thought Fehr was going to fight against a cap. So far, he's just trying to keep a soft cap with no luxury tax. The NHL really can make the strangest things happen, and turn reality in on itself.

I agree. I've been pushing for a LOT more revenue sharing among owners. That way (in theory) it's in their best interests to do whatever they can to make every franchise as profitable as possible.

They said they could be back when the deal is close, as reported the deal is close.

Plus if the NHL agreed to it then they see it a bit useful.

There are 2 things that once implemented are impossible to remove. Once a Salary cap is in place it will never be removed. Once guarenteed salary is in place it will never be removed ever.

They should meet in Anchorage or some other place where there isn't anything to do but get a deal done.

Enough with nice hotels already.

It's the union that doesn't have the office space, not the league, isn't it?

probably b/c they think it would be more constructive than sitting around a table with gary and bill arguing about things.

it's weird they'd have a mediation with no one from the owners committee there.

Do you really think you need to be a player to make an assumption regarding whether players think they have been treated badly or not?

That's slicing it pretty thin.

Optics. The NHLPA will use its repeated requests for mediation as evidence it is bargaining in good faith when it goes to decertify, which has been the PA's intention the entire time.
