“Guys like (Boston Bruins owner) Jeremy Jacobs -- you think he’s not licking his lips right now?” Cherry asked. “(Players) have got to realize, these teams for these billionaire owners are toys. This is not their main (source of income). If you keep pushing them up the wall, you’re going to be very sorry. They’re calling these billionaires ‘idiots’? That really kills me. You’re not going to snow these guys. These guys have been in negotiations.”
You found some of the quotes yourself, you can find the rest if you want to.
If I saw the quotes exactly as you say they've been said, I wouldn't ask you to provide evidence, would I? If you don't want to back up yourself with these 'facts', then it only hurts the argument you try so hard to put out there. I'm not interested in denying facts, I'm interested in seeing those facts before I acknowledge them. Your comments are opinions until you can prove them to be otherwise. That's usually how it works.
The players did not keep "taking and taking and taking". They got what they were entitled to under the CBA...nothing more; nothing less.
Applying that to the current situation... when they get 50/50 on this CBA they won't be giving back either. They'll only be getting what they're entitled to.
Optics. The NHLPA will use its repeated requests for mediation as evidence it is bargaining in good faith when it goes to decertify, which has been the PA's intention the entire time.
Won't that be hard, tho, since the league has tabled more offers than the PA has?

What I'm saying is not out on a limb and in fact you conceded in an earlier post that Bettman had alluded to offers getting worse. You also conceded that the NHL made an offer that was take it or leave it but didn't count because it wasn't "official"... whatever that means. I get the feeling you're just being difficult... so I'm not going to go to the trouble for you.
Renaud Lavoie writes that it's very probable the players will be forced to vote on the next offer that the NHL puts on the table, regardless of if Fehr is happy with that or not. A vote would be essential in order to clearly determine what the players want because they are not all on the same page right now.

Just read that. Terrific news. Just proves there are a lot of players pushing this to get done. I think a vote passes.
Seems like things have become worse since last week reading this thread. Why even waste their time and meet? Just cancel the season and cool off the rest of the winter and get back to it next spring.

I'm sure the NHL knows that they're going to have to vote at some point very soon...wonder whether they scale back the offer just to make fehr look like a jackass.
We've heard from many sources that the players are growing more and more antsy and disgruntled based on Fehr promising to get them more and more as the NHL pulls the plug and says its off the table. Whether that is true or not is to be determined though. That doesn't change the fact that Fehr's leash is getting shorter and shorter. We'll see if he can get them more after a season is canceled. I'm curious to see what the show would be like in the NHLPA if that were to occur.
And just what are those credible sources again? What evidence is there of Fehr's leash getting shorter other than wishful thinking on the part of people like you who think it's all his fault? I would say at this point there is little evidence to support your contentions. What happens if he is right and the two sides really aren't that far from settling it? Apologies all around from your side?

It's probably smarter to table the same offer just to avoid players feeling extra victimized.
Yup, and it's why the players are beyond screwed. They let it get personal, when the owners have never gotten personal. Players are going to lose even more because they let it get personal and let their ego's get in the way of making the only decision/choice they had.
agreed, table it, say you have a few days to vote or we take make whole off permanently.
That's not likely to happen. What will likely happen is that the NHL gives on some issues and the PA gives on some issues. Then both sides can sell it to the owners/players. Neither side is likely to get all that they are asking for. Right now they're just fighting to get as much as they can.

I don't know about removing make whole permanently, but I like the idea of tabling the same offer contingent upon a vote by the PA. I would think Fehr and the hard line players would absolutely JUMP at that opportunity since the union is so firmly behind them. It would show up the league big time, and it's utterly foolproof since they know there's no possible way the rank and file would approve the deal.

Right?
Yep. I agree that you are correct. Fehr seems to have pretty solid support. Pretty much like Bettman.
The league's plan was to try to split the union like last time but it has failed. Time to start behaving responsibly and finalize these last details and get hockey back.

I think it would be illegal for the NHL to tell the NHLPA how to run its operations. (Telling them to vote or its off the table forever.)
