well said.

The migration of players is definitely a negative for the translation of global level of Swiss hockey into results for the Swiss team. (by virtue of the mechanic described by STV ... ) Of course IT HELPS players develop and ultimately IT DOES contribute to elevate the global level.

Then, there is the performances against Slovakia and the US, which you can't dismiss either. All things considered, this was Switzerland's worst WC since 2002.
I agree with you on a result level ... .
But i do not agree on a playerish level. To me it looked like one of the bests (although points and results weren't their) ... it is true that some moments were painfull to watch but fiew in light of the good moments they offered us (me at least !).
I seriously was impressed by them. Appart of the Slovaks, we outshot everyone !! when did that happen in the past ? (and as you say against the Slovaks ... it wasn't a good game).

I think he can't :
http://www.iihf.com/home-of-hockey/c...igibility.html
According to this rule he would have to wait 2 years before claiming a spot in Swiss NT (as he never played for Canada and did not play in Switzerland as a Junior)

Question answered today in some newspapers, Cody Almond and Dan Fritsche would be able to play for Switzerland at the beginning of the season 2014/2015. Almond needs two full seasons in Switzerland, Dan Fritsche four seasons (as he played for US U-20 team). John Fritsche could play, but I don't think he's enough good.

Hasn't Fritsche already played four consecutive seasons in Switzerland? Or were they cancelled when he played for the US and he has to start over?

Anyway, what's your opinion about those players? Not sure I like to have the national team using foreign trained players (though Fritsche is also Swiss trained), I've always thought that a national team should represent a country's development system. Using an old DiPietro as a power play specialist for a few tournaments is fine, but Almond would be a key player for many years.

Well, I guess having just one isn't so bad, but I would hate to have a team looking like those French or Italian teams of the 90's.

Fritsche needs to play 4 consecutive seasons in Switzerland.

Having one or two of those players on the team isn't a crime. And I don't see another one at the moment. But those two could surely help the team, it's a pity that Sotchi is too early, so they'll rock 2018 in South Korea then.

I think he already has during his time in Lugano and Ambrì, though I have no idea where to check that.

I don't see it either, but if Chris McSorley keeps up with his current pace, we will have 3 or 4 new ones every year

As junior? I guess because he played for the US U-20 team afterwards this does not count.

Tyler Ruegsegger, current teammate from Sven Bärtschi, surley has some Swiss realtives.

Arosa-Challenge is looking like a nice little tournament, with this Swiss roster:

Torhüter (2): Berra Reto (EHC Biel), Stephan Tobias (Genève-Servette HC)

Verteidiger (8): Bezina Goran (Genève-Servette HC), Diaz Rafael (EV Zug/Montréal Canadiens), Josi Roman (SC Bern/Nashville Predators), Sbisa Luca (HC Lugano/Anaheim Ducks), Seger Mathias (ZSC Lions), Streit Mark (SC Bern/New York Islanders), Vauclair Julien (HC Lugano), Weber Yannick (Genève-Servette HC/Montréal Canadiens)

Stürmer (13): Bieber Matthias (Kloten Flyers), Bodenmann Simon (Kloten Flyers), Brunner Damien (EV Zug/Detroit Red Wings), Cunti Luca (ZSC Lions), Gardner Ryan (SC Bern), Hollenstein Denis (Kloten Flyers), Monnet Thibaut (ZSC Lions), Plüss Martin (SC Bern), Romy Kevin (Genève-Servette HC), Rüthemann Ivo (SC Bern), Savary Paul (Genève-Servette HC), Schnyder Fabian (EV Zug), Vermin Joël (SC Bern).

So hopefully we can see Cunti for the first time. Also Vermin has deserved this callup. Also nice to see Savary back, he's potentially the best defensive Center in Switzerland, I hope he stays healthy now.

Vermin out with a concussion. That's a pity, I'd love to see him in the NT, he could be the next Rüthemann.

a new post on swiss hockey !!
i felt only England existed with its 99 problems

I also regret Vermin ... he's dam good. As a SCB lover, i see him often and must say that the guys has definitely an edge.

Anyone know if the games will be aired ?

It will be one of the most complete Swiss National team Roster we saw in many years !!

Only Saturday's game is broadcasted.

I guess showing both would have taken away some coverage from the precious football national team

Nothing against the team itself, I just can't stand the media circus around any of their game. I mean, the hockey national team playing next weekend surely deserves more interest than the football national team that played a friendly in Tunisia earlier this year.

My comment was sarcastic. I always wondered why our soccer team (And it's players) gets this kind of recognition, since they never did anything to earn it. Okay, it's the most popular sport in Switzerland (sadly). But you shouldn't give notorious losers such kind of attention.

"Hey, look: Shaqiri played 5 minutes for Munich! Let's make a headline out of it! "

Well, to be fair, what happens to Swiss NHLers is reported as well. And our footballers win some, lose some, like any 2nd/3rd rate European national team.

Just stop covering any game like it's the world cup final.

Anyway, time to end the rant, let's see what happens during the Arosa tournament.

Well, how can you turn your eyes on an event that won't be broadcasted? Even Teleclub doesn't provide any coverage and I won't talk about SSF.

Switzerland played Bielorussia tonight winning 3-1.

Was someone at the game who could share he's view on the game ?
