I got to have a brief chat with Lindholm where we talked about everything from other European draft eligibles to his hot start to Peter Forsberg comparisons.

Quote:
One thing that is universal, though, is how highly regarded the Swedish product is. And as one of the top-ranked European skaters in 2013, Lindholm is aware of the attention being paid to him. It isn’t about to change how the Swede approaches the game in the biggest season of his life to date.

“Of course you know that people are watching you when you play,” the five-foot-11, 181-pound centre said. “But I tried to have focus on the ice.”

Playing around 16-17 a game, had a couple of multi-point games last month but things haven't really taken off since. A point here and there, but not really setting the world on fire, even though he's been fantastic compared to what others do in the SEL at that age.

Getting good ice-time and power-play time as well and it would seem he's getting comfortable to play at this level, it's just a question of time before the points will come more consistently and in even bigger numbers.

Here's a nice documentary on Brynas and they talk about Calle Jarnkrok and his cousin, Elias Lindholm.

I haven't had a chance to watch him play, but he's still 2nd on the team in points, behind only Calle Jarnkrok, with 17 points in 29 games (or I guess 17 points in 26 games, since he didn't get any ice time for his first 3 games). 7 points in his last 12 games, so he's been producing just fine recently. Even if he doesn't light it up like crazy, anything above 0.5 PPG in the SEL is still very good for a kid in his draft year. Sounds like he has a great skill set too, with high end hockey sense and skating.

A question for Swedish fans, is he still playing on the wing, or has he been getting more minutes at centre?

He has been on the RW all season from what I've seen, I hope to see him at center sometime later on. They want him in the top six but the team already has two pretty good centers. I'm not sure if he has ever played on the wing before this season but he is not really suited to play there. Brynä has been struggling to score and now they are among the lower scoring teams in the league, maybe they will make some changes to the lineup.

If Lindholm can score 7 points in 15 games he'll beat Bäckströms draft season (...in points...)

Are WJCs counted to that number of games?

Nick had 26 points in 46 games. Elias will play a similar amount of games because you miss around 6-7 games playing in the WJC, and he didn't play the first 3 games of the season. Right now he's at 6+14 in 28 games(officially 31).

Think tonight's game was one of the best I've seen thus far for Lindholm. Would be nice if he could keep his good play going into the WJC.

Out of curiosity, what's the deal with those first 3 games? Was he dressed and on the bench, but the coach simply didn't play him? Or was he on the roster, but not dressed (sitting in the press box or whatever), and the SEL for some reason counted them as games played?

Teams usually bring one or two extra players who sit on the bench. They are not in the lineup but are sometimes thrown in late in the game or if there is an injury. In Lindholm's case, he did not take a single shift the first three games but they still count as "games played".

But we should note that Nick was the leading scorer and #1 center of the team back then, despite his somewhat modest 26 points.. Lindholm has a little better surroundings, but he'll also likely score some more.

Best offensive player coming from sweden since Henrik and Daniel? The chemistry with Calle J. today has been impressive against Timra

Would love to have him on the Habs but man would detroit be a good fit for him. Playing with his cousin in the next years would be perfect for detroit and their aging core.

If Detroit get lucky and get a 5th overall and take him there. I would bet on my life that Detroit would take there time with him by letting him develop in Sweden. I would be very surprise to see him make the team off the bat with a team like Detroit.

Also it would be amazing if Detroit get the chance at drafting this kid.

Forsberg like.

This draft is looking amazing when you could get a player like this at around the 5th-6th pick.
