New Jersey has the worst prospect pool in the game having David Severson (4 stars) as their only notable prospect. Even though making it to the Finals last year their team is pretty crap too.

It's happened a few times IRL:

'97-'98 Vancouver Canucks (Pavel Bure 1 goal behind league leader, finished 3rd last)
'07-'08 Atlanta Thrashers (Ilya Kovalchuk 2nd in goals, finished 3rd last)
'05-'06 Pittsburgh Penguins (Sidney Crosby put up 102 points, finished 2nd last)

Obviously their records weren't as bad as yours, but lots of bad teams have a player or two that score a bunch of goals.

Go for the Pirates record of 20 consecutive losing seasons. I'm willing to bet nobody has bothered to try that on GM mode.

As has been previously mentioned, multiple "overagers" who have graduated to the AHL are completely missing from the game which is annoying.

All in all I would say if you already have a good game going that you have put some serious time into, it's probably not worth it for now. However if you are about to finish one up or you have just started, it could add another layer to the game.
When did ea release the new rosters ?

That's the thing though.. Bure and Kovalchuk were already established players having won the Richard before. Crosby is Crosby, he was regarded as the best prospect in the world, and delivered.. This is Ben Hanowski, need I say more?

BLUE JACKETS QUIET AT TRADE DEADLINE; ST. LOUIS MAKES BLOCKBUSTER TRADES
March 5, 2013

The Columbus Blue Jackets (30-31-2) didn't make any moves at the trade deadline, but GM Mackenzie wouldn't have it any other way.

"We received some offers, but nothing blew me away. Staying the course seems like the best direction to go in. I have faith that our team will compete for a playoff spot next year," he said.

Started a new BeaGM with the Phoenix Coyotes. It's only a 5 yr though. Unfortunately, I don't have enough time to make write-ups.

Another little crazy gem from the CPU AI:

LA receives: a bunch of garbage

Carolina receives: Jarret Stoll

Carolina then places Jeff Skinner on waivers and LA claims him.

my Leafs Dynasty halfway into yr 3: Won the Cup in yr 2 (tho admittedly i got a little lucky, prob was only the 2nd or 3rd best team) and 1st in the East in yr 3 coming to the deadline

Marleau(88)-Bergeron(84)-Kessel(89)
JVR(85)-Grabovski(84)-Iginla(81)
Millette(80-3.5Y)-Kadri(80)-Frattin(78)
Zuccarello(75)-Colborne(79)-Butler(75)
Bernier(74)

Murray(87)-Del Zotto(85)
Reilly(85)-Gardiner(83)
Liles(84)-Rustolainen(80-4.5Y)
Lee(76)

Reimer(85)
Holtby(73)

*JVR, Marleau and Murray (for the 5th time in 2 seasons) are on the IR, so i brought up Grigorenko(73-3.5Y) and he's been adequate on the 4th line.

Thinking of moving Ryan Murray at the deadline as he's hurt too much for my taste....but it seems nobody has anything of value on their block (And i'd rather not just move him for picks, as i already have 5 1sts in upcoming draft and it looks kinda weak). Is there any trick/formula to figure out how much i have to overpay by to get a guy that's NOT on a team's block?

Traded Bryce Salvador and a couple 4ths for Mats Zuccarello in year one of my New Jersey Dynasty. Zuccarello had 4 red stars and jumped from 75 to 84 overall after a strong AHL season. Might use him on the second line or move him to the RW opposite Kovalchuk.

In NHL 12, I actually had a bit of fun abusing the sim engine. If you have one player NHL caliber while all the rest are AHL caliber or lower, the sim engline likes to give all the points to that one player and maybe one other player. For example, here is a few pictures from a team I made back in NHL 12. Remember first of all that everyone had higher ratings in NHL 12, so an 82 is like a 79ish in 13

I might go back and do something similar in NHL 13, except maybe try replacing comrie with somebody just absolutely incredible like Crosby, see if that makes a difference.

I do every single time, sometimes their expectations either don't fit with my plans (want to tank) or I put up a couple winning seasons and their expectations become "Yo, if you don't get 50 wins this season I'm gonna fire you even though your team is now worse than last year when you got 49 wins".

No, that's the fun, don't get fired. I turn off injuries though, way too many and interrupts my sims considering I only play the home opener and the odd playoff game, or games after a big acquisition
