Yup, not an unproven young one. I won't argue, we need a legit proven starter, Bernier is not that.

So what you saying is that you would like Bernier if he was to be had free?
If so, the Kings offer the same value for Yakupov...

...outrageous ideas on trade boards...

WE don't know Quick has turned into star and Bernier just hasn't had a chance to develop, I know this though untill the Leafs get a goaltender and No.1 Centre their going no where.

Yep, you keep your draft picks and build it the right way, there are no short cuts especially with a Salary Cap. Seven years with a nhl salary cap and Seven years out of the playoffs for Leafs. The last two years the Leafs traded their picks and could have had John Gibson and Jake Patterson in the system instead of a bunch of UFA's who can't get enough ice time because the Marlies can't play them all.

So keep signing young goaltenders?
Just say stay the course.

I can't think of a UFA playing for the Marlies.

Garrett Sparks 31 games 18-7-3 2.70GA .920 save%.

And this is without the London Knights in front of him. I mean seriously, Jake Patterson has 19 games under his belt playing for a juggernaut team.A little early to be crowning him...no? (Before you come with your "have you ever seen him play?" Yes...a bunch.

I'm talking about the Jake Patterson of Saginaw who I believe is trying out for Team Canada.

Sparks vs Gibson for team USA we shall see.

Yes that's all wonderful but no we aren't trading our only elite player who just turned 25 for a couple of prospects.

You had the Goaltender Rask, Centre Sequin, and stud D-Man Hamilton but you gave them all to Boston.

The Leafs don't give up any core pieces and acquire a goalie with # 1 potential.
Scrivens and Reimer have #1 potential too. None of the three are all that likely to reach it...

The above proposal is akin to Rask + for Raycroft (minus the one good season)...

Jonathan Bernier would be a good tandem option for Toronto (well better than Scrivens) with Reimer. I would hope for a more veteran guy but Bernier could turn out nicely.

Of course, I wouldn't give up what seems to be the Kings asking price in this thread (1st and player?). Too rich for my blue and white blood.

Actually, they were traded for players coming back, not given away.

That's all well and fine but we're talking about what to do now, not what happened in the past. Move on.

Why give that up for a goalie with less NHL experience than Reimer?

Maybe because that goalie wasn't rushed into nhl action and was developed slowly. Hes ready for more action and won't get it because hes behind a vesina caliaber goalie named Quick. Hes got more upside then Reimer but needs a chance to show it.

We'll at least get to see him in the Spengler cup.

Yes but it won't prove anything to most people sadly. People will still bash him
