I know, I know. You've heard this previously. But two sides are so close now "they could spit on each other," one source said.

God, it is frustrating they are now working under the framework the NHL proposed in freaking October ... idiots. "Oh we aren't after linkage." Then WHY THE HELL did you make around five delinked proposals?!

nice. But yea, they are really close it's ridiculous. The whole media tantrum last week was to try to get a bit more from each side.

Pretty much. Sad it wook 3 months to get it practically done. What a waste a money from either side.

I'm trying not to get optimistic but this time I'm starting to think of January hockey. With the world juniors as a warm up I may just get motivated enough to set up my new home theater that's been sitting gathering dust.

Man is it selfish of me to just want to finally see our first Stanley cup champions banner raised?

Yeah, I'm not going to get into the whole PR smear campaign the owners have done against Fehr... but if this ends up working out, I think this is a fair (fehr?) question:

"What in this deal couldn't have been negotiated over the summer?"

I think that's what some fans were afraid of when the negotiations experienced delay after delay - that we were in for a "nuclear winter" as the players went after the system. Otherwise why delay until December for a deal that was ultimately always going to be available after some hard negotiations. If I was a player, I wouldn't be completely unhappy with Fehr, but I would want some answers on this.

The PA made 5 de-linked offers before their first real offer of November and even then they had a clause not to get less than year 2. Their first real linked proposal was last week, 3 months after the lockout started. Idiots.

No but if I'm going to chose between the strategy of a lawyer with a great reputation and years of experience, chosen by 750 players all with representation with vast knowledge of the issues or you... that's a pretty easy choice to make.

So if this is true, then Fehr has just wasted hundreds of millions of dollars for the players for no reason. Yeah he is really good at his job.

Oh that's funny.

How many people were involved in canning Kelly & hiring Fehr, 4-5?

Of course it's not. I'm sure all Kings fans were excited for that.

Well to be fair, if they had accepted the 82 game season in November they would not have had the $300M in make whole but they just lost over $500M in salary...so yea...

Makes sense bro.

300m for make whole is 300m gained. You can't look at games you don't have to play as money lost, they didn't have to do the work.

It's almost as though Fehr's plan was to ruin the sport for the owners, players, other employees in hockey, and fans for half a year.

Five nonsense de-linkage proposals, a wasted 3 months, and then finally working off of a proposal similar to Octobers.

At this point I wouldn't even say it's too far fetched to suggest that Fehr has been paid off by some other league to sabotage the nhl.

The only outstanding contract right/issue is the term limits.

Not really, I'm wicked smaht. I also wouldn't have cost the players $3M + $600M.

Seriously though, smart people make blunders and history has shown us that usually those blunders are pretty obvious to those looking at it from the outside.

And where are all these agents with 'vast knowledge of the issues'? I'm actually surprised they haven't been as active as they were in the last CBA negotiation.
