Exactly... and he was on pace to lose his team more than twice that number of runs over the course of a full year playing 3B last season.

Does anyone else feel like our "blockbuster" move this off-season was the Young trade?

I have a feeling that will be the extent of our "big" moves.

There are way to many statistics in baseball. A little bit of scouting goes a long way.

Advanced stats are not at odds with or a replacement for scouting, they're a supplement. And understanding even the most basic ones- basically the ones that have already been accepted by a majority of major league front offices- can really help our understanding of the game.

I don't really mind the advanced statistics.. But the way people throw them around in this thread

Reminds me of Broad street hockey using advanced statistics to claim that Carle is as good as Suter

Phillies offered Hamilton 3 years, 80 million apparently.

WTF!! what's he waiting for? that's insane.

Edit: Also seeing a rumor we're trying to work a deal with the Cubs for Soriano. Dom Brown would be the center piece. Terrible value for the Phils.

The Phillies have discussed a deal with the Cubs that would net them Alfonso Soriano in exchange for Domonic Brown, according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. However, the Phillies might be more inclined to sign a free agent, such as Cody Ross or someone else.

They also discussed or are discussing Alfonso Soriano for Domonic Brown according to Heyman.

Brown for Soriano is a TERRIBLE deal. The discussions hopefully involved Amaro laughing in the face of Theo Epstein when this was mentioned.

Regarding Soriano - I'd probably take it. Then again, I HATE Brown.

Hamilton wants longer term, I'd imagine.

Isn't Soriano like 70 years old? No thanks.

Why would the Phillies ever consider this deal?

Anyone who thinks that the Phillies haven't had interest in Hamilton from the start was delusional. He simply doesn't have a ton of bidders willing to go 4+ seasons for him, so eventually, he'll need to consider maximizing his potential dollars.

Despite all the things I've said about not wanting Hamilton, I'd be happy with that deal. I'd be fine adding him for 3 years, anything more and just no. He won't accept it though.

Not a big fan of either player. But I hope the Phils do not go there. We still need a big bat so lets see what Rube can do. I hope Hamilton's agent understands he is not going to get a Pujols or Fielder type of deal. With his history they would be crazy. If it is true what the Phils offered he should grab it and run.

Man that is a lot of dough!. What a line up if the Phils could land him. But three years with maybe a club option for four is the only way I go. Hell he could get 50 HRs here in this park with no problem.

You could also do a vesting option tied to plate appearances or something.

I was skeptical about signing Hamilton at first but I'm coming around to the idea. Him with a healthy Howard could be deadly.

Ixcuincle thought he was reliable enough. If Ixcuincle is following someone as a source, they are probably a good source
