Paul Gaustad got a 1st round pick, PAUL GAUSTAD, a guy whose career high in points is 36. I understand that he is known for his other attributes to the game. But I don't see why it's so far fetched to say Clarke could fetch us a late 1st round pick from a contender looking to juice up their top nine. Especially if Clarke is scoring at a .65 - .70 ppg pace, it's not like Cmac is a defensive liability either.
Anything less than a late 1st/early 2nd, and I'd rather just hold onto him and see what he's asking for in free agency.
Likely a first this year (if a season happens), simply because of the unique circumstances.
With the cap at $70m, there's a lot of teams with a lot of space this year, who will be looking to load up. There's also unlikely to be many teams "out of it" come deadline time.
And yet BB was offered one for him. Weird. Wow man, you're better at this GM thing than professional GMs are.
To answer the OP, a lot more if people would stop throwing him into every single trade that's ever proposed ever.
Source?
And do you really believe that NHL GM's look at HFBoards and see that fans are proposing a certain player in every single trade and decide that he's not worth that much in real life?

That was an overpayment for sure, but I think what they were paying for was his character, not his scoring.
MacArthur doesn't play the same game so I think stats are much more important for him. I am not sure how much he would get in a deal, but I am guessing that most contenders have 2nd line wings who are MacArthur's equal. My guess is that it could go 2 ways, either a contender picks him up for depth/3rd line wing and gives up a 2nd or a bubble team outbids the contender and gives up a 1st. I could see it going either way.
Darren Dreger via twitter: The Maple Leafs have offers of 1st round picks for Luke Schenn, Nikolai Kulemin, Clarke MacArthur, and Mikhail Grabovski.
I think he would fetch a second rounder pick easy. A first round pick could possibly be had by a desperate team like Nashville in acquiring Gaustad. He was last traded for a 3rd and 4th round pick. After bouncing between the AHL and NHL and having a 31 and 26 point season the two season prior. He definately has gone up in value after consecutive 20 goal seasons and reaching the 60 point plateau. He likely would have twice had Kulemin's game not gone MIA. I would expect a slightly better return than what the Canadiens got for Kostitsyn.
There's a reason that BOTH Gaustand and Kyle frigging Quincey returned 1st round draft picks this year, why Colorado was OK with moving that 1st as a package for Varlamov, and why a HOST of 2nd rounders got moved... people are forgetting that 2012 was a shallow, horrible draft year. Might go down as one of the worst in recent memory. It's easy to move 1st and 2nd rounders when you're convinced that the pick is worth more as a tradeable asset than they player you'd draft with it.
This year's draft is DEEP. A late 1st rounder last year = a mid 2nd this year, easy.
His value has regressed since his first season with Toronto but I still think he's worth a late first round pick. He's streaky but when he's on, he's on. He plays with an edge when he wants to, has a wicked accurate/powerful slapshot and is a very good playmaker when his linemates are on. His totals took a hit last season because Kulemin had the slump of all slumps but because of Kulie's defensive game, Wilson demoted Mac rather than Kulie.
All that being said, he is expendable to the Leafs if Kadri continues to improve.
