seems to me that the NHL was the only party looking to strike a deal and they were insulted so badly that even the moderate "willing to stay until it's done" owners flew home the next day.
I'm awaiting for this board to get in full blown hysteria mode with any ambiguous tweet... If there's two constants in this lockout, it's that disgusted posters and CBA items off-the-table always magically reappear.
Change the nouns around a little bit and look up a synonym for "done soon" and they can churn out these new tweets every week and still keep them new and saucy
Yeah I think people have been saying they're close since November. They might be close on some matters but there is still a lot to resolve and being close doesn't mean a deal is done. They've still got ways to go.
-10 freaking year CBA please... no more of this bs.
-6 year max terms, 7 year max re-signing own players
-300 mil make whole whatever
-50/50
-15% variance.
7-10 days??? I thought they were "close". Wake me up when this bull**** is over.
They are close: 10year vs 8year CBA, 5year contracts vs 8 year contracts, and variance limits. Though, they still have to discuss transition period, Olympics and realignment issues.

Olympics are a non-issue: They both think the players should be there.
I was thinking about that. Maybe free game center? That would be awesome.
I can't imagine they'll do that. They don't have server capacity to suddenly allow everyone to use the service. Usage would be so much higher compared to what it normally is.
They SHOULD be able to close this gap and play this season. Anyone who was following the 04/05 lockout knows that at this point it was so much worse between the two sides. They had just started meeting basically and never got past the main salary cap issue.
To recap and hopefully clear up any confusion: Both @WBZSteveBurton and @RealLinusOmark are fake Twitter accounts.
Omark's real account is @limpanomark ... I don't know if Burton has a personal account, by the report attributed to him last week came courtesy of his employer at @WBZsports.
Doubt any agent would let his client do that. What if the player suffers a career ending injury in the first day of training camp?
I agree with you. Except the player is getting 13 million gaurenteed (perhaps in a signing bonus so on July 1 you get your payment). If he's only worth 6 million per I'm sure even a fairly risk adverse player would jump on that.
The question is would an owner do it? If this was a UFA, the player could back out and try to once again Max out his dollars since GMs can't make any formal agreement.
I would expect it not to happen right away but when it does, the agent of that player will be able to do it with enough credibility he can do it with other players.

Not no more/less a loop hole than back diving contracts were in the previous CBA.
EDIT: I take that back. Back diving contracts were cap circumvention within the rules of the CBA. Agree to terms on an extension before it's allowed is a little more slimy.

The NHL would not need mediators for a meeting. The owners are going to lay a huge F bomb to the players tomorrow. Make whole, the whole nine are off the table. The players are optimisic bc they think the NhL will keep the elements they offered last week tomorrow.
Oh you better get ready for war.... Bettman is going to say "sorry but you think were close? Find a way to come up with 300 million because we dont have it now "
This optimism is not only unfounded, its complete denial. How do some of you not see what will happen tomorrow?
Put my in the camp that thinks they are way too close to a deal for it to all fall apart. We're not going to hear a damn thing from either side. I read that there is an official "media freeze" which is really the best possible thing that could happen.
The next time we hear from either side, it's going to be announcing a deal and announcing when training camp and the season will start.
These are SMALL issues and they will be worked out by people who get paid a ton of money to do it.
And anyone who thinks that the 300 million is actually off the table, can you please pass what you're smoking, I'd like a hit.

I don't think Linus Omark will even be concerned with the lockout, as I doubt he'll be playing in the NHL anytime soon regardless.
