Yeah, Portage is a friggen hike. Almost surprised a QS&L hasn't opened in Orland. There's nearly every other restaurant imaginable there.

Been waiting nearly 2 months to get a check from a tournament I umpired. Emailed my assignor asking what was up today, and he says "I emailed you awhile ago saying I need more envelopes"

You'd think if your sitting on a check for someone for more than a couple of weeks you could send out a reminder? I never saw his email claiming he needed more. What a ******.

EDIT: just checked and his last email about envelopes was in August. So, yeah, well after this tournament happened.

Years ago there were some hockey assignors that operated the same way. Sucked. Luckily most of it got pretty streamlined in recent years and you'd get paid by the 10th of the following month.

Portillo's is good but far from the quality some here are crediting it. I think It's overrated personally.

The cake shake was overrated, but their hot dogs are amazing. Second to none. They also make a solid bacon burger.

The cake shake is amazing, period. The rest is good but I don't eat there very often. Ricobenes is my go to spot. 10/10 for me, and unique.

No chain has the best hot dogs, especially on the south side of Chicago. They have decent over priced dogs, but their best thing is their beef and I've got better options within 2 miles.

I think the reason why constantly mention Portillos, or at least the reason I personally do, when we have these discussions... is because I doubt any people here would have tried the places I went to locally, that didn't have any other locations, because no one seems to have grown up in that area or ever mention it... So I mention Portillos instead.

Yeah, so many of these places seem like they use the same suppliers too, so the dogs + beefs are mostly identical. The best beef I've had in a long time was on Sunday morning at a little place called "Duks" right near me at Ashland/Erie. Always thought it looked sketchy from the outside and it looks sketchy on the inside too, but ****, that old woman with yellow teeth served up one big beef, the best in the area imo. The problem when you find places that are good, cheap, and really close, it becomes way too tempting to back every couple days. I'm glad I haven't found a mexican joint like the one I used to frequent back on the north side.

There are a few Mexican places over in Hanover Park/Streamwood/Schaumburg that I could eat at daily the rest of my life.

I've carried out from there when it was 5 minutes from my house. It doesn't keep very well IMO so you have to eat it fast.

Some places are not meant for delivery. There used to be a place called Take out Taxi that would get anything for you.

As far as Portillo's. Hot dogs are average, like their beef sandwiches. Chicken Cesar salad is really good.

Wee-Dees over in Elgin is one of my favorite places to go to, near the riverboat. It's an absolute dump, and always filthy. I've probably had everything on the menu multiple times, and they have a good sized menu.

We used to but they turned to horse **** about three years ago, so now we mainly order from Barraco's or V&N.

Also, I just started reading Hawking's A Brief History of Time. The man's a genius.

I've been eating the buffalo chicken for 10 years at Orland, no difference, also used to go to Lasalle location when I worked downtown about 8 years ago, was just as good.

The thing is, I'm a Christian, so if my family catches me reading Hawking's book I'm screwed.

Yeesh.

If they're ok with Middle Eastern foreign policy and history, pick up my book.

Have a barraco's three houses away from me. Perfect for getting more beer while deep into my cups and the sandwiches are pretty good. Not too big on their pizza though. Expensive for the quality.

Drive by a Barraco's everyday, have never been in though.

Haven't had Ricobene's in probably 10 years. I don't get to Orland that often.

To the deer that decided it was a good idea to run out in front of my car, I am fine, my car had absolutely no damage, and you are dead. You lose.
