I liked MacKinnon but he has to stop the blind drop passes. It will cost the team if he makes it.
If your referring to when he's in full speed down the right side...it seems he doesn't know what to do with it once the dman angles him into the boards, with his speed he can either go around him or turn the over way with the larger surface and make a play but he's accustomed to just centering it in front ...Though if he finds the right chemistry with linemates that could be a set play of sorts.
How about Pelech ??? i really didnt see him - non factor
In the case of Pelech the less you notice him the better. Although his stats might make him look like an offensive defenseman, he is was hyped as a good defensive presence.
If I saw correctly, Corrado made a real smart play getting away from trouble and slowed the play down, to create the break out that was the developing play of the first goal. He also scored the second goal. He made very good defensive plays and first passes, also I saw at least three really smart pinches from the blue line. I find it hilarious people were saying he was a non factor. He was definitely noticeable to smart hockey minds...such as hockey Canada scouts and of course...myself.

I didn't see anyone here call him a non-factor? As far as first impressions go, say to say you can't make a better one than he did tonight.

Maybe I was watching a different game than most of you, but I thought Drouin looked amazing. In a tournament where developing quick chemistry is so important, I think it would be a mistake not to pair him up with Mackinnon. They'd need a bit of size on that line but they're so creative together. Yeah, he's young and he'll have next year, but I thought he was one of the more exciting forwards all game.

That's why he'll playing on the left wing if they're smart, in the next game vs the russians when he played center he generated a lot more rushing from that side then he did while playing right wing the night previous. He has to learn to be more patient with his speed, on the big ice there's lots of room to keep the puck go around the net and look for a 4th guy coming in or what not. I noticed that a lot here also, the players were all put in a position where left hand players played left wing and right hand for right, works on small ice but on that surface that's not very effective, removes all your options.
Dumba is a physical guy (although I doubt he makes it), Murphy and Sproul are outstanding offensive players, Reinhart is a shutdown guy. Corrado is good defensively but not a Harrington and solid offensively but not a Sproul or Ouellet.
Might not quite be as good as Harrington, but he was Top 5 D last year in the OHL without putting up any sort of offensive numbers. He's not far behind. And Corrado can certainly be physical, in fact Spott even said that's one of the reasons they picked him for this camp.

Don't think Dumba has much of a chance with how he was playing. You would think he would be out there trying to prove himself considering how negative that quote came out, but I think he actually looked worse than he has this year in the WHL.

He did stumble but ended that sequence of play by swatting at the puck & making sure the player lost control of it.
So scoring a goal isn't going to help a guy that "doesnt do anything amazing" but is just "well rounded"? Why should the goal's look matter? Isn't a goal a goal? Heck it was the GWG. Didn't he have the GWG in a SSS game too?
I don't get how being a well rounded player is a BAD thing? Would you rather bring the specialist or a guy that can play both ends? The fact this tournament has a cut off to adding players makes me think the well rounded guy while maybe not being great in 1 specific area is the safer pic.
Then there is Corrado's skating ability & the fact he has played in Russia against Russia this summer.
The lengths some people will go to discredit Corrado is laughable. This isn't specifically you newfy but what I've seen so far.

Was posted here yesterday or the day before. Spott or one of the other coaches basically said they were not impressed with his season to date and he would have to earn his spot big time. Don't have the source but it was included with it.

Yeesh. That's one way to put it. Saying other players have flaws and Corrado doesn't makes him out to be Nick Lidstrom out there.
The other way to put it - basically what others have said - Corrado does everything on a scale of pretty well to very well. Others do one or two things excellently and one or two things averagely.
It'll be a question of what the coaches are looking for. A solid all-rounder... or an offensive specialist, or a physical force.
My thoughts:
The Wotherspoon/Corrado pairing was impressive IMO. Very mobile, and good at moving the puck up ice.
Sproul and Pelech looked a step slow at times (Pelech more than Sproul).
Rielly's vision really impressed me in the offensive zone.
Harrington was the best defenseman on team white by a long shot.
I didn't notice Murphy too much.
Ritchie will make the team, he was a physical force out there, his hit on Dumba was awesome.
Mackinnon should make the team, 13th forward at the very least.

While this is true, there is one obvious flaw in logic with this argument.
That being, of course, that every goal is lucky.
To go further, every single event that occurs in a hockey game is lucky. There is luck involved in every single occurrence.
To make my point clearer: 100% of things that happen in a hockey game (or any sports event) involve luck. They are all lucky.
So to point to one and event and single it out as lucky is incorrect. The thing that changes is the degree of luck involved. And considering how many goals in hockey are complete flukes: bounces off shinpads, accidental tips, goals getting knocked in from the side of the net - considering all of this, Corrado's goal doesn't seem particularly lucky.

You are not being honest here. When someone says "Corrado sucked. The goal was lucky" - that is completely discrediting the player. First off, he is saying the goal is irrelevant or trivial. Second, he is saying the player altogether sucked. No explanations or distinctions: the player just sucked in totallity.
What makes me happy, is knowing that the hive-mind on these boards is factually wrong in this instance. The same thing has been said for many months now: "Corrado sucks".
But Corrado was a finalist for "best Dman in the OHL" last year. So the OHL thinks he's very good.
Then he got invited to the WJ tryouts, so hockeyCanada thinks he's very good.
Now he's playing his typical game: flawless defensive hockey with a bit of an offensive touch. And he's playing his game with success here and he could very well make the team. And if that happens, I will be even happier.
