Pretty much guarantee that he makes the team now if there was ever doubt.

The only good thing about the lockout is what it means to Morgan Rielly.

Him getting half a season of junior hockey to prove he's healthy and get his timing back, followed by a chance to dominate at the WJC, and then moving into the NHL if the lockout ends, is pretty much the perfect scenario for him.

Rielly and Gardiner (whenever there's a season) give the Leafs a whole new dimension on the ice, not seen since Brian Leetch in his brief time in Toronto.

How, if only we can find Mats Sundin, maybe a Mogilny, that would be nice.

I think Rielly might be good enough to play in the NHL right now. I'm typically in favour of (dmen especially) young players developing in junior, the AHL, but Rielly's electrifying and already skates better than most NHLers.

Looking forward to see how he performs on a large scale, perfect prep work for the parasitic Toronto media.

It was super packed at the camp, lots of media and spectators. The Flames and some of the other NHL players were practicing at the rink across, they attended the camp afterwards. This was my first time seeing Morgan in person and he really does move around the ice so effortlessly, he was paired up with Hamilton for the most part and Wothrspoon for a bit. The top line at the end they had going looked really good, consisting of F Huberdeau-Nugent Hopkins-Scheifele then Rielly-Hamilton on D.

Even if there was a season today, I'd want him to stay in the WHL and get his game up there. He missed a solid year for development and it doesn't do any harm to re-up your confidence with his peers before he hits in the NHL.

Anyone else watching the scrimmage? Good quality hockey, especially for a scrimmage.

For the record, I Disagree 10000%. Shouldn't he be given a chance despite the tired old rhetoric that gets perpetuated here?

Sure since it worked out so well for Schenn, let's do it to our other top 5 pick.

IMO He's going to get his 9 games and be sent back down till Moose Jaw finishes. 9 games in a shortened season is alot more than 9 in a 82 game year.

What more confidence do you need after being one of the best players in the league? I'd say the WHL and his current situation is holding him back right now.

What does Schenn have to do with Rielly?

No where near the same player as well as a coach who understands about player development!

id say a lockout could mean we get another draft pick like Rielly so that too is a good thing.

the highest Mogilny ever finished in the scoring race was 7th in 92-93.

Kessel finished 6th last year.

Just read a little report on the Red White game.

Rielly's standing out early with his puck movement apparently.

My girlfriend was asking me about what happens in a lockout with drafting, and after explaining she said, "so the leafs could get 1st overall", and every part of me was thinking "uhhh, stop being a leaf fan and say 'yeah'"

I summation, I hope we can get someone as good as Rielly (mackinnon would just be too good to be true)

Truth is, Kessel is very much what Mogilny was for this team. Mind you, Mogilny was older but surrounded by FAR better players.

Peak to peak, Mogilny is the superior player, no doubt about it. But they have similarities: pure snipers, all offense, great speed and puck handling, both inconsistent at times.

Kessel's a really good player. It's too bad many Leaf fans don't appreciate him as much as they should.

I think most of us do appreciate Kessel. He's our only game breaker.

If there was one player on this team that I'll have to start a franchise with, it would be Kessel and whoever here doesn't pick Kessel for that doesn't know hockey.

No one on this team is a franchise player, but Kessel is our best player no doubt. I'm also one to believe that Kessel's perception within the fan base and media is heavily affected due to his personality. A vocal, open and, to be honest, cocky Phil Kessel would have a different reputation than a shy, quiet, avoiding spotlight Phil Kessel.

theres a very underrated defenceman on our team that could be considered our franchise player.
