i am all aware, he is overpay, i am all aware it would be greater to have almost any other 7 000 000$+ player (or 2 x 3 500 000$) than him on the lineup.

I would gladly put him on waiver and replace him by UFA.

But we have to give him some credit. if he was a 2 000 000$ player, he would be useful to any team.
its not only about the money,he DOESNT produce to be in the top 6 and hes too small and soft to be a bottom line player.

Gomez as a league minimum player isn't useful.

But as a league minimum player he's a relatively risk-free gamble. Suppose your #2 center goes down to injury and you don't have a viable replacement in the pipeline. Pop Gomez in at a minimal salary and see if he is hungry enough to make something happen. If he does get his mojo back, win for you. If not, it's not like you're any worse off than before. He can skate in the league, the rest is just in his head. He's worth a try in the right situation. (Not for the Habs).

We will see what the NHL GMs think about it in his next contract.

If he get a NHL contract, then at least one GM disagree with you.

All your souls.

Montreal isn't going to ditch Subban just to get rid of Gomez. Keep dreamin.

If things are similar to last CBA the Habs don't have to give away their 23yr old no1 defensemen to get rid of a bad contract.

Habs are rich. Habs can afford to loan bad contract to AHL, ECHL or Europe.

I'd be willing to take the risk, but I'm not giving up any assets.

If he's coming to the Devils, it's on a cheap UFA deal with a high-reward, low-risks signing like Sykora.

Yeah I agree, and I'd rather have Sykora back than Gomez for the same low risk deal. I don't think Gomez is completely washed up or as pathetic as it seems, but his contract just really sucks, and he shouldn't have even gotten more than $4.5 a year, and even that's pushing it. Now he's not even worth a quarter of that. I wouldn't take him on the deal he's on now if we were given all of Montreal's forward prospects, and Subban!

A fresh start somewhere would do Gomez good. A fresh start after hopefully being bought out though. I don't think he'll ever be a 60/70 point player again, but a decent player is a possibility.

Gomez gets traded back to NJ and puts up 70 points with Kovi. I would die laughing.

Gomez for Horcoff, make it happen.

No need for Gomez. None. Absolutely none, my fellow Devils fans.
He is the 3rd most useless thing we could add into the system after more defense and goaltending prospects.

No way. If he puts up 70 points(45 would be an accomplishment for him) even with Kovy, I still don't want him at the cap hit he's on now. With the daily changing of the ''There will be an amnesty buyout, there won't be an amnesty buyout'' maybe he gets a low money/low year contract. I'd love to get Lecavalier on the Devils if he's bought out, but I think he'll only be bought out if there is definitely an amnesty buyout. He'd probably still cost too much though.

Even if there is no buyout amnesty I still think Gomer gets bought out, but maybe not until before next season as some have pointed out it makes more sense financially.

I think in a limited role, as a PP specialist, Gomez could put up decent points in New Jersey. Not unlike Sykora last year. If he was on re-entry waivers I might take a flyer on him and just bury him in Albanyif it doesn't work.

BUT I would not take him with a $7M salary, even if we could grab him for a 7th round pick.

As for Subban, he's untouchable so there's no point in making a proposal. The only things MTL would want would be Larsson, Henrique, or Kovy and all of them are going nowhere. So there's no deal to be made here.

Gomez has a year left on the contract. Montreal has no reason to package any assets in order to move him. It's not like they're one player away from a Cup and Gomez's contract is holding them back.

It's not like there's some player out there who we're just dying to sign and can't because Gomez is around. We're not that desperate to move him.

What about Kovalchuk? He's due to start getting $11 million when in 12-13, if finances are an issue in Jersey t could be considered.

He's not going anyone unless something massive happens. I don't think the finances are as bad as people make them out to be, because A. Vanderbeek was the key component in getting that deal done so he committed to paying him that money when his cap hit was lower, and B. Devils had a competitive offer for Parise.

Ownership troubles (Chambers wanting out of his 48% share), I think is compounding the current issue.

I don't think the first one was "..............................." worthy. A package of Subban and Gomez would probably require Larsson. Gomez only has one year of $4.5M left after this season. I don't really think that him being a part of a package with Subban will make it any less expensive, and to get Subban I'm sure Montreal would want a piece such as Larsson. In the end, it makes no sense for either team, but value-wise it makes a lot more sense than this Kovalchuk inquiry.

I think the new CBA should establish a rule to keep Subban out of the Atlantic. Would really rather not deal with him
