I actually watched 75% of the Nets / Knicks game last night.... The last 5 minutes in basketball is great when it's a close game... the other 43..'meh.

In 1918 the season was 22 games. As late as 1942, the season was 48 games. Up to 1946, it was 50 games. Then it started to rise to current number of games, from 60, 70, even more, and eventually 82.

There's no magic number to indicate how long a season should be. As long as the guys have played enough to be at the top of their game when playoffs start, I'm happy.

Well, you see, these women gather stalks from the field, and dry them out. Then, they make a basket out of them. Once they finish, they put a ball inside the basket to indicate that they are done. At least, that's the way I understand it.

This. And you can bet your ass that any time the number of games has been increased it has been with ticket sales in mind and not to "preserve the integrity of the game".

You know I would probably watch something like that over the current game of Basketball.

Just don't like it and have not tried watching it more then once since the Bird era.

Reports are that NHL has agreed to put last week's offer back on the table. Take it or leave it.

The players should fire Fehr and take this

Owners should fire Bettman and take the players offer. At least Fehr will go away when this is done. Unless something drastic happens, we'll be stuck looking at Bettman for years when hockey returns.

Pretty much, that's just about the only part of the game I find interesting. That and occasionally half time. Like baseball, love playing it but hate watching it. Suffice to say, I'd sooner follow basketball through the TSN highlights, pretty much catches the best part anyway.

Think what you want about Bettman, man's got a knack for this bargaining stuff. By taking make whole off the table, he's now made it a concession again that the owners are willing to give up.

"We took it off the table the last time you disagreed to it, but tell ya what, because we're in a giving mood we'll table the exact same offer again. Take it or leave it."

Time isn't on the players side in this thing. The longer it goes on the better that deal actually becomes for the players.

I hope the Celtics actually show up tonight. After last week I'll get excited when a deal is signed.

The last 5 minutes of a close game are the worst. Foul and free throw, foul and free throw. And now they added instant replay ... the last 5 minutes can take an hour to finish.

God forbid we have growth like we have seen the last 7 years.

Those seven years look "great" when you ignore the thirteen other ones and the present day.

I am just happy to have hockey growing and healthy..and hope this CBA can be as productive for the game as the last one was.

#CBA Mathieu Darche said NHLPA still on conf call. Membership discussing options. Said he'd rather not go into details while call is ongoing

there have to be some players smart enough to want to vote right?

Does Fehr not have to sign off on the CBA before that can happen though?

Not sure. I know there was a rumor that he got $8m if they settled this without him but who knows if that was real or not.

Yes because the NHLPA offer on variance , length (only 6 yrs in realiyt) and contract terms are for owners benefit

NHL has gone as far as is gonna happen ,, NHLPA thinking they can get more by still holding out is foolish

Time for NHLPA to either vote or season is over

Let it be over (the season, I mean). I'm beyond caring.

There are thousands of people who depend on the NHL - team employees, arena employees, waitstaff, restaurant owners, etc. etc. Even if you don't care, they do. Desperately. For them, half a loaf is a hell of a lot better than none.
