At this point It just goes to show the Hockey Canada mentality if Mackinnon and Drouin can go and rip up the Q (Drouin posting highest PPG in all of CHL), Play well together in the super series, lead Canada to a Gold Medal in the U18 in the summer (Both put up PPG, Mackinnon with a Hat trick in the Gold Medal Game) and then have a great camp and then get cut. It would prove that camp means nothing and that teams are picked out before they arrive to camp.
Just incase anyone was wondering, Moose lead the CHL again this week

I think MacKinnon is a guaranteed lock at this point! Now I'm crossing my fingers that Drouin and Shinkaruk make the team (hopeful but not probable that both make it). Drouin is just magic and Shinkaruk was being overlooked until this camp but he's an amazing player with all the tools and possess that clutch factor!
Did not watch the games, but what happened to Monahan? He really stood out in the Summer series against Russia.
Nothing really, it's just that draft eligible players have to stand out to make it. Many people say he should stay because of his two way game, leaving him out of the top 6. However to do that would leave out a guy who suits a checking/grinding role a little better like Danault.
All that said, he isn't cut yet, they may give him another look tomorrow.
So Beauvillier gets invited, everybody writes him off.
He plays well, and everyone still writes him off cause there is ''too much competition''?
Why would the Canada brass invite him if they know they are going to cut him right away even after a strong performance? It doesn't make sense.
If they invited him, and he impressed, he'll at least survive the first set of cuts.
I actually have liked him thus far. He has great speed and his rangy body and reach would work very well in a checking role. The problem is that with the 8 sitting out, it looks like there are two third line positions and two fourth line positions, plus the 13th. If he is going to make it, it will probably be in one of those two fourth line spots. I don't think the 13th forward will be an extra 3/4th line type, but someone more easily shuffled into all roles, like Monahan. MacNeill may have done enough to earn one of those spots. Wilson may have shown a lack of discipline and might be overlooked now for him. So Beauvillier is fighting with pretty large group of players for that last spot.
If I were Canada, I would definitely pick drouin. A wear and tear game isnt that important in tournament games, because well, it isnt a playoff grind. You dont play a team 4+ times, you play them once. Theres not a lot of wear and tear, instead you only have 1 shot to beat the other team. Therefore I would go for the most firepower on offence as I can without being a defensive liability. With Wilson, I know he adds the intimidation factor but if you play a team once, it wont really have time to sink in... There are a few forwards I would take over him.
