Looking more like his playoff run self. I have a feeling he is going to have a monster second half and rocket back up the draft rankings. I still feel that he has a game tailor made to the Oilers needs and we would be blessed to get him.
He's been the guy I wanted since the summer. Of course if the Oilers somehow end up with a top five pick then you need to take BPA. But I think he is a realistic target and exactly the type of player this team needs.
Oil Kings looked much better last night but still almost gassed the game in the end as they saw a 3-0 lead shrink to 3-2 with about 3 minutes left in the third after Calgary scored two goals in 26 seconds.
Roach is undrafted, is he a decent skater? He has some solid stats and is a big boy. I guess Moroz forgot to spray Raid on his knuckles before the fight.

Roach is signed by the Kings. His skating is below NHL average but he makes good plays from the back-end, solid passes and good stickwork and positioning and he can be mean. He might get turned around in the pros with his pivoting and footspeed so I'd really like to see him work on using his stick as effectively as possible. I like him best of the big boys on Calgary of him, Rissling and Helgesen going forward.

Why can't we sign kids like that? We obviously need more toughness in the system and have resorted to using a high 2nd and a couple of 3rd round picks in trying to address that need over the last 3-4 years.
Roach had a couple of really good rushes early in the game, plus the KO over Moroz who did nothing after the tilt. Both goalies were sharp. IMO Reinhart was the best player on the ice for OK's.

I think one of the reasons the Oilers haven't signed CHL players of late is because they've had an excess of prospects and picks thanks to the rebuild. 50 contract limit and such.

Exactly. If we have to let a guy like Blain walk, why would we sign some guy who might one day be a bottom pairing dman?
Roach is a nice Junior level player. Probably a solid AHLer. But he is a project at best. I was surprised he wasn't drafted. He does have the same issues Plante has, ie.. skating and lateral movement. He isn't what I would call "mean" enough either.

So not a guy that you'd anticipate being a goon at the pro level?

If you are looking at a goonish type guy then Mitch Elliot in Seattle would be better. I think those kinds of guys are done though as a pro player is concerned. That is why guys like Moroz go high in the draft.
You will probably see more fighting defensemen and Tougher skating fowards get drafted nowadays. Guys like Geertsen,Kanzig,Hauf on Defense or forwards like Carroll,DeChamplain,Martin at Forward. There is alot of very big and tough dmen that can play coming back into the league. It is very much a throw back. You are getting more 6'1,6'2 forwards that can skate and fight as well in the league.
Just read on the Edmonton Journal online that the Oil Kings are moving Pollock back to D with Reinhart gone to World Jr. camp, seems odd to me as he hasn't played D since 1st year Bantam?

Any kid with a Ranford inspired mask is alright in my books.
Oil Kings up 5-2 against the top WHL team Kamloops Blazers.
Musil picked up a second assist on the 3rd goal and then had a point shot tipped in by Samuelsson for a goal the 4th goal.
Moroz then tips in a Corbett point shot for a goal, he's +2, Musil is +3.
Samuelsson is having a hell of a game.
edit: Moroz also had a fight, I missed the first 2 periods though so I didnt see it.
Should be noted that the Blazers dropped Inglis after this game to open up another o/a spot. He had 5 assists in 11 games for them, obviously that wasn't good enough for the Blazers but man is it tough being a 21 year old in the WHL.
