Team Canada to use artificial light to deal with the "24 hours of darkness" in Ufa
I'm pretty sure this is just about the time change and adjusting their circadian rhythm,
Your circadian rhythm is generally dictated by light and darkness.
This would combat the lack of natural light and dimly lit hotel rooms.
I wouldn't be surprised to see European teams do this in the future when playing in North America.
This. That was my first thought after re-reading the (poorly written) article. It was still good for a few laughs though. lol
The Canadians are just playing mind games. "Kind of" bashing the host city("local food isn't good enough for us", "the weather is too gloomy for us" etc.) is a good way to irritate the Russians.

They have always brought a chef with them to Europe. That's not a new thing. Lighting? Yeah....I don't know what they're thinking.
On December 26th, Ufa will get 7 hours and 15 minutes of daylight. Edmonton, for comparison, will get 7 hours and 29 minutes. What the **** is Hockey Canada going on about?
Well the government is going to steal all of the light

Don't be a hater, 14 minutes make all the difference
what it really means is, no one wants to go to russia.
Some reporters here in Finland tried to create controversy too by giving this year's games the whole 'murky Russia' spin (and I don't mean the lack of light, but being in the 'third world' in general), and our head coach simply responded: "We've talked to [Finnish] players who have actually played there. They say Ufa is almost a western-looking city, and the facilities there are NHL level."
Forget everything else: the dark murky Russian factor, the day light, the clouds. The biggest issue with Ufa is simply that it is fairly boring. Kind of like hosting the tournament in Regina or Des Moines. Of course I'm not sure that's a bad thing for the players.

I always do enjoy reading people comment on Russia who have never set foot in the country. The stereotypes and delusion is hilarious. It is usually the media feeding this dribble and idiots just take it in as the truth.
Respect to your head coach though Finland is a real dark horse this year for me and will spoil the tournament for someone.

Because the tournament is usually held in such exciting, fascinating, desirable fun places such as Edmonton, Buffalo, Saskatoon, Grand Forks, Leksand etc. etc.
I'm sure they spend almost all of their time either at the rink, the hotel or commuting between these two places anyway.
+5 in Toronto and sunny. I don't know how you guys (not just Russians (I'm looking at you Winnipeg and Edmonton), take temps like that on a regular basis. Thats not even enjoyable winter cold.
Edit: I like how big and open that intersection is! Toronto needs more of those.

Ah yes, we forgot, a chef from Canada is only allowed to make Donair, Beavertails and Poutine. On a special day they get grilled cheese, but only if they win.
It's minus 5 with a windchill of minus 10 in Monxton and yes there is snow on the ground
I'm moving to TO except I don't like traffic
The dinner will be KD and ketchup with a main course of fried balloney and mustard, maybe some boiled wieners

No extra effort is necessary for them to be irritating!
