Calling crossingbroad's writer a hack is an insult against hacks.

He's so god damn annoying with his crap. Terrible grammar, curses every other word, and has nothing interesting to ever add to a topic..

I've been against Hamilton from the beginning, but for 3 years or 3 with 4th year option, that's hard to pass up.

Yeah, it is. It's not like he's already begun to show an errossion in ability yet. Three years is such low risk, especially given that we are starring at what could turn out to be the largest TV contract in sports history (some projections of a 6.5 BILLION dollar deal for the Phillies broadcast rights).

Yes, he's going on 37, but last season he hit 32 HRs and knocked in 108 runs. Major upgrade over the platoon of Brown, Mayberry and anyone else who played LF.

If we get Hamilton, what is our line up then?

Rollins
Utley/Galvis
Hamilton
Howard
Young/Frandsen
Revere
Ruf/Brown
Kratz/Ruiz (when he comes back and probably higher in the batting line up)
Pitcher's Spot

Problem is, we have too many left handed bats in a row.

I mean, it'd be great with a lot of lefties against RHP (since they are the majority).

That's why Soriano would be a good signing, he could hit 5th behind Howard.

You are also wasting Revere's speed by hitting behind Young, Howard and Hamilton. If you Rollins "must" leadoff, then Revere should hit 2nd.

I would assume, once everyone is healthy / playing, it would be something like this:

1. Rollins (SH)
2. Utley (LH)
3. Young (RH)
4. Hamilton (LH)
5. Howard (LH)
6. Ruiz*
7. LF
8. Revere
9. P

If we acquire Hamilton, which is still wild speculation, I could easily see something like:

Rollins
Young
Hamilton
Howard
Ruiz/Ruf
Utley
Ruiz/Ruf
Revere

Obviously Utley is taking the hit moving from 3 to 6, but it's just necessary to break up your lefties.

Now, if Revere takes over lead-off, you could also do something like:

Revere
Rollins
Hamilton
Howard
Young
Utley
Ruiz/Ruf/Brown
Ruiz/Ruf/Brown

Regardless, I'd be happy to have to cobble together such a line-up if we sign Hamilton

Until there is another move I feel our top four is a lock.
Rollins
Young
Utley

After that I have no clue. That RH power bat at five is the key. You just know the Phils are hoping that Ruf can grab the LF spot and supply some much needed power. But Hamilton or Ross would be nice at the other corner position. This line up could be deadly and with our big three on the mound we are right in the thick of things with the Nats and Braves.

Stark is a much more reliable source than those saying that hamilton will end up in Philly

I agree, but honestly, Hamilton's agent plays it notoriously close to the vest and RAJ/Gillick have become renowned for the shocking move with little leaking before.... I think he re-signs in Texas, but I 100% believe we're in on him.

If Texas had been able to acquire Upton, I firmly believe Hamilton is already a Phillie.

Also:

Quote:
7:10pm: The contract will not get done tonight according to Jeff Bradley of The Star Ledger (on Twitter), though the two sides are really close. David Waldstein of The New York Times says the Phillies were hard after Ichiro and could push the Yankees to offer two years (Twitter links). He also notes that Phillies special advisor Pat Gillick was the Mariners GM when they originally acquired Ichiro.

Yeah, Stark has a lot of connections with the Phillies. If he says it's unlikely, then I would be inclined to believe him.

I wouldn't mind Hamilton if it were on a short deal. Philly is the kind of market that could break Hamilton, and I'm not sure if he would settle for anything less than 4-5 years.

I don't get the Ichiro thing. Are we trying to single teams to death? He would be redundant with Young and Revere on board. He does play good D, but besides that I don't see him being an upgrade. It only makes sense if they plan on trading Brown since he's the only true RF on the team.

I would have no problem singling teams to death. Hits are hits. It will never, ever, be a bad thing to have too many good hitters on the team, regardless of their power.

This. I've never heard anyone complain about having too many runners on base.

High amount of singles =/= high amount of basereunners (neccessarily)

Ichiro, Young and Revere are all below average to poor in drawing walks.

That was my point. This team already had a hard enough time working the count. In certain cases a 9 pitch at-bat that results in an out is better than a first pitch single. The thing with relying on guys that don't walk but hit for a high average, is that if they aren't hitting, they are basically useless. A guy like Swisher, if he's not hitting is still useful because he can work a count and draw a walk.
