Denmark at the WC-U20 Division1A, France.

Good start from the Danish team:

Yesterday we beat the home team France 5-2.
Goals by Patrick Rasmussen, Martin Højbjerg, Mikkel Højbjerg, Thomas Søndergaard og Oliver Bjørkstrand.

Game summery from IIHF:
http://stats.iihf.com/Hydra/320/IHM320903_74_4_0.pdf

Today we managed to squeeze a 4-3 victory against Slovenia.
Goals by Oliver Bjørkstrand (2), Oliver Bjørkstrand (3), Nicolai Mayer and Thomas Spelling.

Game summery:
http://stats.iihf.com/Hydra/320/IHM320905_74_3_0.pdf

So it really looks like we have a lot of depth up front for playing at this level. 7 different goal scorers on 9 goals. Oliver Bjørkstrand really shows his talent with 3G 1A in the 2 first matches.

Overall Tournament report is here:
http://www.iihf.com/competition/320/statistics.html

Belarus has also started with 2 wins, and Norway can follow later today. Belarus is really impressive with 2* 2-0 wins (Slovenia & Austria). So it seem they have a really solid defence and goal keeping, where Denmark has 9-5 in goal difference after 2 games.

It will be a battle between Belarus, Norway and Denmark for promotion. Wednesday Belarus will play against Norway, and the looser will likely be out of the race for promotion.
I believe there is little difference in strength between the 3, and each of them could be the rightfull winner.

Judging from the stats, so far Denmark is least impressive out of the 3 leaders. For example they managed only 6 shots during first period yesterday despite ~7 minutes of power play including ~1,5 min. 5 on 3.

Not to mention that they've played 2 even games against France and Slovenia when Belarus and Norway seemingly dominated their matches.

And seeing how bad this team lacks scoring center I wonder why they left out Ehlers off the roster.

I think it's a little worrying that they have conceded 5 goals in 2 matches (9-5), compared with Belarus 4-0 and Norway 7-2.
But as always it's the goaltending and the defence that is the achilles heal of Denmark.

It's clear after 2 matches that either Norway, Belarus or Denmark will take it. Off course we will have to win against Austria tomorrow to still have a chance.

I'm cautiously optimistic about Denmark's chances so far.

I agree. With the form Nikolaj Ehlers have shown recently, I would have included him to see what could happen. But offensively this team roster is quite good and he is still only 16.
The lack of danish shots on goal is a bit bewildering. Maybe they simply like to grease the puck to much. It's something you see in danish football as well, when they want to pass the ball over the goalline instead of just shooting it

From what I understand Nikolaj Ehlers is a winger, not a centerman.

Denmark also beat Austria 8-3. The team is still scoring lots of goals, but also letting in quite a few in the other end.
Sebastian Ehlers, Nicky Kisum, Mattias Bau, Sebastian Ehlers (2), Martin Højbjerg (2), Sebastian Ehlers (3), Nicolai Mayer (2), Oliver Bjørkstrand (4).

Sebastian Ehlers started his scoring. So that was a center-player who found the net!

Norway beat Belarus 4-2, so tomorrows game against Norway will be hugely important.

Edited goal scoring.

Yeah Oliver Bjørkstrand and Nikolaj Ehlers would be possible next year.

So lets show the norwegian what you can do even though the highest point in the country is the Storebælts-bridge (it's 254 meter). Natural points is a dramatic 172½ meter. Even Holland is almost double that - 322 meters.

Norway got outshot by Belarus in their game, 41-29. Belarus has been by far the most shooting team in the tournament with 130 shots in 3 games. But they only have 6 goals, either they are just unlucky, or their shooters lack quality, hopefully it's the latter and Denmark can beat them with quality shots. Norway also shot a lot in their first two games, but they haven't been as effective as Denmark, hopefully that is the way to beat them, high scoring%. If Denmark can win tomorrow, we are almost there.

You typed in 16 goals but named some players twice?

So? Hardly relevant to judge or measure a country by such an arbitrary account. Nothing laughable about that.

Looks to me like he listed all 8 Danish goals in the game with the number in parenthesis being the total number of goals scored by that player up until that point in the tournament. So, the first time Ehlers is listed it was his first goal in the tournament. Second time his name popped up, he scored his second goal of the tournament and so on...

Seems to me Nepal would be a lot better at hockey if highest point had any relevance...

I should maybe have been more clear (but brackets were number of goals in the tournament, and if no brackets it was the first goal).

Damn it. Denmark lost to Norway in overtime 3-2. Denmark was in the lead 2-1 but Norway equalized in the 52'th minute and hen secured their victory in the 63'th minute.

So Norway again....it's getting to be a malediction! (I can hear the cheering echoing through the mountains - but congratulations to them from down here in Denmark).

So even if Denmark beat Belarus, then Norway have to lose against Slovenia to ensure a danish promotion.

Goals by Patrick Russell and Sebastian Ehlers (4).

Same amount of shots in regular time, so once again Søberg proved to be a gamewinner...

Also Denmark and Norway played pretty evenly even though Denmark were heavily penalized in the game compared to Norway....

Norway had ONE shot in OT Denmark had 4 or 5 and Norway freaking scores on that ONE shot.. Geeez

I predicted this would happen, seems it's always the same with Norway..

We lead till about 5-8 mins before time, we go to OT and they bag it..
It's becoming a REAL frustration this Norway complex !

Denmark was more or less continuously on the PK for 5 minutes straight leading up the 2nd Norwegian goal, with the last 45 seconds being 5 on 3. Simply not good enough that they can't keep out of the box at such a crucial time of the game.

Here we go... Denmark lost the last game against Belarus 4-1. Bjorkstrand with the lone goal and Lindhoj on the assist.

George Sorensen got the last period in net after being down 2-0.

Norway won 5-1 over Slovenia, so they win the group and will play in elite next year.
So with both a loss to Belarus and Norway it wasn't even close for the Danish team.

Well Denmark good attack - usual weakness in defence and goalkeeping.
Belarus apparently very strong defence....but scored to few goals on their many many shots.
Norway managed both. Good attack and good defence.
plus this goalie Steffen Søberg (GAA 1,28 SVS 0,951). Drafted by Washington 2011

According to the stats when it came to the offensive 3 guys stands out with points:

Oliver Bjørkstrand 5G 3A
Sebestian Ehlers 4G 4A
Thomas Spelling 1G 7A

Also very positively surprise by the two Højbjerg brothers (Mikkel & Martin) that normally play in Djurgården J20:
Mikkel Højbjerg 1G 4A
Martin Højbjerg 2G 2A

But defence and goalkeeping not up to highest standard.
http://stats.iihf.com/Hydra/320/IHM320000_84_4_0.pdf
NB: This statistics is "yesternews" so before Denmark's 1-4 loss to Belarus. Penalty killing and save-% is both 4'th.

Final stats:
List over the scoring leaders of the tournament.
http://stats.iihf.com/Hydra/320/IHM320000_85B_5_0.pdf

Artus Gavrus from Belarus was best in points with 10 - 5G 5A
Johannes Bischofberger from Austria best in goals with 6. (Gavrus, Oliver Bjørkstrand and Andreas Heier from Norway followed with 5G)
Thomas Spelling best in assists with 7.

Goalkepers:
http://stats.iihf.com/Hydra/320/IHM320000_85A_5_0.pdf
Steffen Søberg from Norway was best with 95,1%
The danish goalkeeper Sebastian Feuk only 5'th on the list....probably a big factor on why Denmark was only 3'rd in the group.
