If the NHL's remaining firm on a 'take it or leave it' offer then what, exactly is the point of mediators again? They already had the mediator dog and pony show once to show they were negotiating in good faith lmfao.

Well the NHL said they don't want a mediator. NHL might have just reluctantly agreed to one just to prove to Fehr they're not budging. It's just more posturing, but I believe the NHL is done making revisions.
I think a deal is imminent. However no earlier than early January. This will go down to right before games from the 15th of January will be cancelled. Once the games from the 15th to January are cancelled I think the whole season will be called. Unless they have a deal, and cancel those games to rewrite the schedule of course.
55% sure a deal gets done, but I am 90% sure it won't happen before then. It will come down to a deal or no deal until next year sometime in the first week or maybe second of January.
today's meeting was pointless. but at least it wasn't a step back. it wasn't really anything. they should probably get back to meeting some time this week imo.

NHL said it was pointless
It was Fehr/NHLPA PR stunt ,, Mediators are pointless as shown the first time
Fehr worries me. I'm afraid he'll be playing games. If they keep the make whole, and Fehr agrees to the CBA lengths, and contract stuff I'm afraid then he'll try to squeeze more money out of the other stuff. I'm not even sure if they're only fighting over stupid things cause Fehr will find a way to **** it up anyway.
Second week of January. A deal gets done, or the season is done the way I see it. If a deal is reached I can't see it being earlier than that. Once it comes time to cancel the games starting January 15th I think it's over if a deal hasn't been reached.
Never underestimate the power of stupidity, I guess.
This was my biggest mistake throughout this process.

And there's a 10% chance of that.

THIS
Stereotypical Union SOP.
Soon the Union will move to the time-tested media-manipulation "blame game" and Fehr will threaten that we're close to there being no hockey for the fans this year, and it will be on the "big bad owners" head. Set your watch to it.
I can understand the NHLPA's desire for a mediator, but it's naive.
The owners are down to their last "take it or leave it" before they actually mean it and the players feel they're closer than they've been throughout this process.
The years and %'s between the two sides is tiny from where this madness began, they were hoping a mediator would help bring them halfway.
But, as we all knew when this process began... it's going to take more than just the players trying to meet the owners halfway to get this done. They're going to have to give up more.
I still think a deal could get done, but I'm not betting on it. I didn't think they were dumb enough to do this again at all back in the Summer. Guess I gave them too much credit.
Deal will be done for a January start 100% sure of it...just have to deal with another week or two of stupidity.
Didn't you say it was your uncle who had dinner with Brind'amour and he thought the season was toast? You're a lot more optimistic than us that's why I ask.
Not asking in a dickish way I've just seen a lot of posts from you lately that are positive, and optimistic which is a good thing.

Yeah he did.
Personally I've always been hopeful. Was just posting what my uncle had told me.
Both sides are simply too close and the issues are not full systematic changes, nothing to cancel a season over.

Yeah it seems they're too close, but I don't have any confidence in Fehr, or the PA. I just have a bad feeling if the PA says they'll the 7 years, and the league puts the financial stuff where it was, they the PA will try even more to press it.
Still think leaning slightly toward a deal by the second week of January right before games from the 15th on/entire season would be cancelled. Don't see it any earlier than that if it gets done. If it's later than it's cancelled I think.

This is what we've said from the start, but apparently the sides are each dumb enough to think it is worth taking the risk of canceling the season over.

which is absolutely true IMO. the players have moved, theyve made concessions.
that being said, i dont think the players are innocent...i see the players more as the 'Democrats'- they are the better of 2 evils. doesnt make them angels, but i side with them

If the players are Democrats you know BG isn't siding with them
wait, we're going to attempt to align our political beliefs to who we should be supporting in the NHL lockout?
Maybe I can assist.
Democrats = Union = NHLPA
Republicans = Corporate rights = Owners
Anarchism = Chaos = Donald Fehr
Nationalism = Greater good = Gary Bettman
Independent = Common sense = Fans
