Indians pulled off a steal. Choo is a good player but always has nagging injuries. Just a brilliant move all the way around for Cleveland. The AL Central is going to be very exciting for the first time in a long time. You know Detroit will be near the top but the other teams could finish in any spot in the division.

So, I did not know MJ wore #12 for a game, but it's plastered all over ESPN and Facebook today.

Chang-Yong Lim is a 36-year-old righthander from Korea.

Soon, he will be a Chicago Cub, according to this link from the Korean news site Naver (link in Korean).

I ran that link through Google Translate, and rather than just post the translation here for the humor effect, I'll simply report that the gist of it is that the Cubs outbid four other teams interested in his services (Tigers, Orioles, Red Sox, Rangers), and that Lim isn't expected to pitch again until 2014, because of recent Tommy John surgery.

With Kyuji Fujikawa apparently in line to take over from Carlos Marmol as Cubs closer by 2014 (or maybe earlier, if Marmol can be traded), Lim would appear to be a good option as a setup man. The photo on top of this post is from Lim's appearance in the 2009 World Baseball Classic for Korea. If I had to guess from the photo -- and from others I found of him -- I'd guess he's a sidearmer or submariner.

The article didn't indicate the terms of the deal, but did indicate it's a two-year contract. I wouldn't think this deal is very expensive, and it's another low-cost, low-risk, high-reward possibility. Nice work by Theo & Jed.

Love it, always wanted the Cubs to get a submariner too.

Sandy Rosario keeps getting tossed around between Oakland and Boston this year. It is the third time he's been claimed, including twice by the Red Sox. Now he has been claimed by the Cubs, according to Carrie Muskat.

Rosario, 27, is entering his peak peformance years. He fits the profile of recent Cubs bullpen acquisitions in that he has a live arm who can also find the plate with consistency.

He has a mid 90s fastball that peaks around 97 mph. He throws strikes and misses bats (including a 17 walk/122 K season in 2010 for low A ball Greensboro, when he was ranked as the Marlins #21 prospect). Last year he pitched 26 innings for the Marlins AAA affiliate and finished with a 1.04 RA and a walk to strikeout ratio of 0.69/8.39.

He also features plus slider that can touch 90 mph and a so-so change. If he has a weakness it's that he sometimes catches too much of the plate and probably gives up more hits than he should. A big step forward for him would be to refine his location to where he's not just throwing strikes, but he's putting them in better locations.

He profiles as a late inning reliever and is another buy low guy with a chance to add some serious value. This offseason the Cubs have added Carlos Gutierrez, Zach Putnam, Hector Rondon, and Kyuji Fujikawa. All of them profile as big arms with the ability to control the strike zone.

Good flyer to take as all he will cost is a roster spot. No word on who the odd man out is at this time.

Seems like all this guy has been waiting for is the opportunity. I love how we are loading up the bullpen. That's going to add a lot of wins and it is so much fun to watch a game just locked down after the 5th or 6th inning. I wonder if the Cubs getting all of these arms means that they are serious about trying Vizcaino as a starter.

Its crazy what Theo has done with the Cubs in just 1 year. He acquired our 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th best prospects (according to some lists) and acquired Rizzo who is one of our 3 best players going forward. With a good draft and a few trades, he could completely turn the Cubs system around in 2 years and have a ton of money to play with in free agency going forward.

He has done a tremendous job with the system. I expected that but he has definitely delivered. The Rizzo trade was brilliant, we're lucky we got him for a reliever. What has suprised me though is I definitely did not think he would be this active in free agency. This team is set up well to perform much better this year, maybe even .500. In 2014, we should be a contender. We already know we are going to have a strong bullpen. We're getting there with the rotation and the lineup. Next offseason we should defnitely be making a couple big signings to tie is all together and start winning. Then the prospects will start trickling in and the team will just get better and better until they are the best in the league every year, which is the goal.

I think you are being a little optimistic. This is a 90 loss team right now. They won't score enough runs and Baker may not even be ready to start the season from what I've read.

I'm saying if everything goes right, we can be .500. Realistically, 74-88. I do think, however, that the bullpen has a chance of being very, very good, one of the best in the game. That is going to push this team above where they should be in the standings.

I care more about key players progressing than I do wins. Particularly if the 2nd half of the season is without guys like Baker, Fujikawa, Garza, et al for most of it.

Agreed. The Cubs lost 100 games last season not because they were that bad, but because they traded away 40% of their starting rotation and shut down another 20% of it in August and another 20% in September.

I don't care if the team loses 100 games again next year if it means we traded Garza, Marmol, and Soriano and acquired some meaningful, young pieces.

Cubs looking in to Olt and other various off season notes

I wonder if Garza pitches well in spring training and shows that he's healthy if the Rangers make the move?

That being the key. All three of those guys are productive and want to be here so it better be a good return to move any of them. But Theo seems to think the same way, he isn't going to force anything.

So Kevin Love came out blasting the T-Wolves the other day. If I'm the Bulls, I'm letting it be known we are very interested in him and they can have the pick of our roster. Noah + Charlottes pick + whatever else. I think Love can opt out of his deal in 2 years.

Apparently the Angels and Hamilton are "getting close" to a deal.

You can tell them they can have whatever they want besides Rose.

May as well go all the way after all the money they have in that team. They also need to start working on a deal with Trout. I don't know if Trout wants a mega deal now or wants to add a couple more MVP season and really max out.

Also just read that the Cubs are willing to pay 26M of the 36M that Soriano is owed in a trade...
