I think it speaks volumes that a lot of these players haven't gone down in the leagues to ECHL or even CHL teams for the year. I think it might be a forced retirement!

12/05/2012 Dean Strong (RW) Lake Erie DEL Loaned to Denver (CHL)

This confirms that Strong is signed to a SPC.

Rob Bordson (28) and Karl Stollery (26) have now played more than 25 games which means that they have a full year contract.

I'll still have to wait before adding McCarthy (24), Lee (12) ad Fredheim (13) to the list.

By the way : (X) = Games played

See post #179. I'll wait until he has played at least 25 games before adding him, since there are no confirmation whether he signed a PTO or a SPC.

By the way, Steve McCarthy has now played 27 games with Abbotsford. I'll add him to the list.

SPRINGFIELD – Bryan Helmer, a 40-year-old defenseman who holds the American Hockey League record for points by a defenseman, is joining the Springfield Falcons.

Helmer has posted 562 points in an AHL career which has seen him play for eight teams, including the Falcons in 2003-04. He played only nine games that year because of an injury which sidelined him until late in the season.

Helmer’s total of 1,093 AHL games ranks him third all-time behind Hall-of-Famers Willie Marshall (1,205) and Fred Glover (1,201). He has played 144 Calder Cup playoff games, a record for AHL defensemen.

I think it's a SPC. I guess we'll get a confirmation soon.

Grand Rapids signed Mike Knuble to a PTO (try-out)

Wilkes-Barres signed Cody Wild
http://www.wbspenguins.com/articles/...neep-and-wild#

I'll only add Valabik, Wild and Clark to the list. The other players that have join AHL teams in the past few days have only signed try-outs contract

Also a bunch of players got released from their AHL SPC and signed with NHL teams : Matt Gilroy (NYR), Jaffray (Winnipeg), Bodie (Anaheim) and Parent (Anaheim)

-Kael Mouillerat (St.John's), Graham Mink (Providence), Kenndal McArdle (Rockford) and Cam Reid (Milwaukee) upgraded their PTO contract to an SPC

-Jon Sim was released from his PTO with San Antonio despite registering 13 points in 22 games. He is rumored to have signed a SPC with Adirondack.

-Steve McCarthy was released by Abbotsford. McCarthy was waiting for the end of the lock-out to get a chance in the NHL. He got invited to the Flames camp but didn't make the team. He decided to return with ZSC (in Switzerland) where he played in 2011-2012 instead of staying with Abbotsford.

Joey Tenute (Hamilton), Scott Howes (Springfield) and Brad Mills upgraded their contract from a PTO to a SPC.

Jed Ortmeyer has also been signed to a SPC by San Antonio
http://sarampage.com/team/news/index...rticle_id=2195

Mathieu Beaudoin was traded from Hershey to Rockford
http://www.icehogs.com/news/icehogs/?article_id=3673

I'll also add Kris Fredheim (Houston) and John Lee (San Antonio) to
the list since they have been on their respective team roster since
the start of the season.

In the end, there is only have 12 names remaining on the list of unsigned players. Most of these guys weren't even good enough to be full time AHLers :

Chris Murray (Charlotte), Jeff Prough (Connecticut), Daren Machesney (Hershey), Chris Cahill (Milwaukee), Dave Leaderer (Milwaukee), Garrett Suter (Milwaukee), Jake Gannon (Peoria), Scott Fleming (Portland), Nick Layton (Texas), Josh Engel (Toronto), Kyle Neuber (Toronto), Matt Rust (Wilkes-Barres)

You could argue that the lock-out made some victims like Graham Mink and Bryan Helmer who signed late in the season or like Kenndal McArdle and Brad Mills who were stuck in the ECHL. However, in the end, everyone who wants (and can) play pro hockey is playing somewhere either in Europe or North America.
